Contains Bob's linked graph above, and more rotten news for us:

Heard they were changing all the signs up in WA Sean. Getting ready for the 10.00 per up there. Places in CA where it's 7.00
Where did you hear that?

Okay, sit down for this one. BS. Political/Media spin.

My first search (with typo)
wasshington gas pumps set for 10 dollars - Search (bing.com)

There is a race track nearby that station.
My very rich neighbors are into super frickin' fancy dragsters. I just heard one rumbling while I was mowing. I never knew that there was a racetrack up there. Tri-state something something.

It's not just that source, from what I skimmed. Bad media.

One of my childhood memories was a line at the pumps going way out into and down the street. A paper bag sign was taped to the analogue pump. With a permanent marker "Pump shows 1/2 gallon prices". 1979 probably.

Yup. Late 70s.
Fill up every other day. Odd Even.
I spent more than a few nights in the back seat of my car in line before school.
I had a 35 mile one way commute at that time. Drove a '64 T Bird with a 20 gallon Tank. Worked part time after school 3 miles away. Add another 6 RT. They would often run out of fuel if you did not get a good place in line. Or at least be late for your first class. The buses were not a good option going to Woodland Hills from Playa Del Rey.
Like 4 transfers starting too late in the morning some of them
