I agree in terms of conventional rigging, but if you take half the tree so the top hits the ground and absorbs the impact there is very little shock loading on the rigging. It looks to me like that top is just slung there rather than being lowered, and will be cut up where it hangs from the...

Last time I did a cat rescue, the homeowner asked for a card as they were considering having the tree felled. Gave em a card, heard nothing, 2 months later the tree was gone and they didnt even get me to quote. Go figure. :?

I use a similar trick to get more traction in my log truck, hang the grapple over the back, sometimes with a big log in.... Lots more traction, if it doesnt just sink up to the axle...
