Fourth day in a row of rain. Thought we might dry out yesterday, but it was pea soup fog with occasional light sprinkles until about 6pm. It's chilly, damp and dim. Wish I had my slicker and much boots, I'm getting stir crazy.

High 30s. 25 mph wind gusting 40. Power was off this morning before light. They had it back on 40 minutes later.

They finally got off their dead asses and got the bunch of dead ash that used to take the power out every time the wind blew. They knew right where to go when it went out. Job security maybe. This is the first time its been out in a while. Used to be every wind storm.

Back online after we have been without grid power for near all of 3 days. Plenty of wind, and the rain has been endless. About 8 inches of rain this past week. Our creek is really flooding, overwhelmed the culvert under the road in front of our property and had water several inches deep on the pavement for about 100 feet. This has only happened twice before in the more than 45 years we have lived here.

The little WEN genny ran 65 hours straight, used about 2.5 gallons of fuel. It's answered every call I have asked of it, in spades. A good buy. Wood stove kept us warm, propane kitchen stovetop for cooking, buckets from the creek to flush toilets. Refrigerator/freezer and a few lights in the kitchen and living room powered from the genny. We even plugged in the laptop and watched a DVD :).

Life is good.

That's damned fine fuel economy! My little diesel heater burns about 8 gallons a week, a little more than a gallon a day. At Cali prices, it's oppressive. But, I'm also perfectly warm, to the point of sweating occasionally. Money well spent. My overall cost will likely go down when they finally re open our fleet station, only for it to increase dramatically when the Cali refineries shut down. It's not out of the realm of possibility to see $10 a gallon next year. Makes me glad I bought the bike, even if I ain't got her running yet.

Week of rain, possible of 8 inches over the next 7 days. That's flooding. I hope we're ready.
