The family left and are at a friend’s place in Burbank. Karen just sent an update:

“Joe and Rebecca are the only people that are still on Douglas Street according to Dylan. They said the air quality is very bad. Heather and Dylan are probably gonna go back to the house today and get food and the other car and maybe some other supplies. Not sure when we will be back there.”
They still ok. Looks like Armageddon down that way. 1000s of homes gone.
I dont know if there is a Pacific Palisades even left. Alta Dena looks gutted.

They moved down to Silver Lake to another friend’s place. Smoke still pretty terrible. No water in their area of Pasadena. Childhood friend in Altadena lost their home and she said 90% of the neighborhood is gone. Nick & Karina and their crews at TreeCareLA are all accounted for and wearing respirators to work getting trees off houses. More Santa Ana winds arriving over the weekend. It’s really quite apocalyptic.

First of all, CA is close to the bottom of the first world states I'd want to move to, but after one fire? I think I'd look around, think "Why am I even here?", consider that fires are only getting more plentiful, and worse, then GTHO.

Yep, no argument from me re CA and the long-term fire situation there.

I actually was thinking on my own situation back in 2020, when we had to evacuate for 8 days and didn't know if our house was still standing for the first 4 days away. It was hard on us...and we live in the effin' rainforest. Not sure where I'd go.

Snowing pretty good tonight. Had to pick up my wife’s car from the mechanic and the twenty minute drive took an hour to get home. Plenty of people in the median and ditches. I need to leave again to pick the kids up sometime. They went a few doors away to watch the Ohio State game.

29° and sunny in Snowflake AZ currently, allegedly warming to a balmy 48°. Dry here too, at 18% humidity.

Alleged to be 28° in Winslow when I board. I'm bringing my quilt this time, that train gets chilly going across the desert at night.

27° and snowing now, though the snow won't be anything. Staked out a property corner, and boss asked if I wanted to do a commercial location survey. Of course I don't, because they're lame and boring, but I told the boss it's up to him. He decided to postpone til tomorrow when it'll be warmer. It'll still be lame and boring, just warmer :^D

Real cold is coming next week. We're actually getting winter this year. Had a real snow, and days in a row below freezing. Fantastic!
