Living Up to the Name
Forest thinning project for a custom home lot on a private lake, up to 10 days, negotiated day rate. Remove saplings, fallen, dead, dying & diseased trees. Brush mowing throughout. Canopy raising up to 16'. Neighbor took 2 loads of chips, 2 others went to a Girl Scout camp in the area. 1 load of standing dead white oak wood for firewood.

And so on to day 9. At Day 6, we broke into 2 crews, with a crew of 4 on the forest project and 3 in the city keeping up with jobs (bucket truck + chip truck). So I made every other day 1/2 day appearances with the chip truck to keep up with the brush. Last day was a huge log pile of white oak that we loaded with the grapple, and direct chipped the remaining brush onto the muck highway the skid steer had made. Now that it's not snowing, I'll go back for a final photo shoot to get some good final "after" shots.

General Purpose
Chains are a last resort due to the circumference of the logs. Usually it's Amsteel slings, but we need to get some longer ones for those large hardwood trees we sometimes have to deal with. Our larger grapple attachment had a welded on gated hook on it for rigging purposes; this small one is just a temporary until we can adapt the hydro fittings for our new medium size grapple. This new one will have the best levels of flexibility and grip and we'll weld on a gated hook, too. For sure no one gets under with the chains. That big chunk was max load for the boom, hitting at 10,000 lbs. That's why we had to skid it over with the loader, to get it close to the truck for the stiff arm lift.

Shitty nasty snow at the wrong time this morning. I built a dry storage box for saws in the pick up. Hope it’s up to standard for $60 and a couple of hours

I screwed the pooch yesterday, post-storm conditions, tired. I didn't see the log before it got the rear passenger door, rear corner of the cab below/ behind the door, and the bed in front of the wheel-well. Haven'd done anything that good in a loooong time.

Believe or not Butch, this guy has 60 employees, spread out all over the province. Barely has time take a breath in between dealing with it all from the minute he wakes up until the time he goes to bed. His days of social interactions are long gone it seems. Rather him than me. Good thing about this job is theres no cell phone service.

Yes. He does have a business partner, managers, sale staff, secretary, accountant to delegate to as well....but ultimately a lot of people to deal with every day. I think this particular job and a few others through the year are the exception whereby theres so much liability at stake, that hes not willing to put that on his regular guys and not be there. As is its just him and I up there cutting. One other guy down on the road coordinating with the flaggers and construction workers so we can all work in sync. Still have the worst trees to do, but yet to secure the dates to exclude the drilling works thats happening throughout the span of cliff down below.
