Silver maples are nice trees to remove, behave themselves, chip nicely, nothing spiky, nice job, but they don’t get very big here before rotting out and falling apart, at least not that I’ve seen.
We spent the end of the week clearing the back wall of a dam, fairly routine stuff, lots of running up and down the bank with ropes and chains, had a play with the new grab, need a bit longer before I can properly review it.
We chipped the brash over the back and stuffed the trunks back into the wood.
Pruned 8 of these things today. House was bank owned for 4 years and was let go 10 years before that. New owners like me for some reason. Not a bad contract to have. Not the most lucrative but easy work. Also they are great people to work for. Cooler of cold drinks and lunch shows up promptly at noon. It will be a work in progress. Last guy that maintained it loved his hedge trimmers.
Beautiful birch trees. I wish people would plant them as specimen trees with 50ft around them as a the main focal point rather than close to a house. This place looks like the gift that keeps on giving.
Planned out for years to come once we get things under control. I’m about over doing the big ugly removals. There are a few on this property but nothing to bad. Something seems nice about being able to work all day and chip up in 20 minutes or less. It’s peaceful work.
Wow, that'll be awsome Mick. Be patient sir, be patient... these kids these days, and all that sort of thing... poor blokes. lol at "instagram followers," I did that for about three months till my friend (five years older than I) made fun of me, and I quit it cold turkey. Internet life is so weird. Trying to get away a bit, but this place sucks me in. Good to read older guys like you and Corey and John (Ikskllr?)
John: Sean's wrench is just sitting on my bench, man... I can't find a box sir, seriously... I'll get er out here pretty soon though.
Had a nice 145' Fir today. Davin fell the butt stick... kinda blew off all his holding wood lol.
Jed and I did this river birch removal back in the day. Single stem, probably 30"on the butt. I remember being totally floored that it was a river birch, cause I'd only ever seen them clumped! Too bad that the clumps always rip themselves apart, never get the chance to mature into the gorgeous trees they can be.
We ate the Bear today.
As a matter of fact, we smoked that bears ass!
Got taken off the site, we are currently logging, and sent out to fell and buck 30 large Beech.
Richard stepped out of the feller buncher and came to help.
We were done after 6 hours
Richard started at one end, Anna and I at the other.
She felled and I jumped around like a white rabbit with a chainsaw, trying to get them bucked faster than she could fell them.
Fine, clear weather and no wind, perfect.
Best thing for me was seeing how fast Anna has grown as a faller.
These were 5 times bigger than anything, she has tackled before.
Biggest one was a bit aside from the rest.
I asked her to go drop it, while I finished bucking: " Right, where do you want it to land?"
My smile was a mile wide, when I watched her head off with the MS661 go to work on that tree, absolutely fearless.
Richard had one comment at the end of the day: " She would make a fine faller."
