Rec Climb Mariposa CA

Stig reiterated that several times Brian.. The fact of how different this tree was to the Sequoia and Redwood he climbed. Canyon live oaks are awesome to play in.. Strong oak but the wood is very fibrous and supple. You can really travel out far on the limbs. It just bends and bows.

The boys had a great time also just being kids... Guess they were also practicing with the throw bags/weights also whilst I was upstairs:/:
I will try and get that vid up loaded tonight
We just had a great relaxing climb... Then we all went to lunch and went for a hike. I took Stig out to a really large valley oak I have a hankerin for. I think the HO may let us play in it in the future. :D

The last picture is of a car part the tree ate... Old starter or generator. Rumor is there WAS a whole engine once on the root flare... :O

Sad day if ever we find out :(

Now we just have to figure out the next climb date :D
This fall I am thinking if it won't interfere with any other GTG's ;)

Katy went outside of the canopy to get a shot of both Stig and I once we got out to the edge to try and capture the scale of the tree... See that little red dot???? LOL

Stig remarked that swinging back would be a bit hazardous from that distance since you would pretty much slam into a trunk the size of a bus:lol:

Just as likely to swing into the ground first, with as wide a crown as that :D.

Looks like great fun!

That really is a nice tree, climbed some big live oaks but I doubt they were that big

And there was my thought... The ground to rope factor on that spread means you have to walk a ways back to play Tarzan or you could be more like George of the Jungle:lol::lol:

I know this was short notice this time and I hustled it up mostly for Stigs visit, but we definitely need more tree housers to line up on the limbs next time..
We pretty much have this tree for us to climb... And it is a fun and relaxing climb. Easy access...
I am going to try and line up more than a couple trees for next time also. That way we have a couple different trees to play in over a couple of days.. :D

So far we have this oak and a large valley oak. See what else I can line up :D

That is a starter or generator off an engine that the tree ate. Rumor has it there is an entire engine in the root flare of that tree. A shade tree mechanic pulled the engine out of an old car (probably using the tree as part of the hoist) and laid the pieces at the base of the tree. The tree just kept growing over the years and swallowed it into the root flare.

Here are the boys practicing throw line technique. Should I eventually tell them the line needs to be tied to it?? Nawwwww... Maybe when they get more serious about it:lol:

SO.... I am thinking that we need a few more souls to play in this tree this fall.. And seeing it is fall... Maybe we can come up with a date. Steve H and Gerry B have expressed interest in the climb.. Since we have the house available, we can put several people up in it. Spots we can set up camps too.. Tree is about 20 minutes drive away with plenty of parking. And I will do tri tip if ya'll want.
The Wraptor is on it's way elsewhere but we really don't need it for the climb unless someone is interested in a demo and Paul can accommodate us. I have several weekends available starting Nov.

Shall we?

Edit.. Weekend of November 21st... Only open 22nd (Sun.) and the 23rd. The Friday and Sat (20th and 21st) Just got booked....

Just a little bump for Stig.....

I was told one of the large laterals fell on this tree my friend. Sounds like the long limb walk I did (that would be to the right if you looked at the tree from the road.
Heard not a complete break or tear, but a lateral crack and it is still connected..
I will see if I can get by there and take some pictures. Guess the family that owns the tree are a bit out of whack and drinking too much. Soooooo we can only hope... I was talking to Doug, the neighbour I took that big walnut down for, and he is going to try and convince them to leave the limb as is.
I think it is the one you are standing in front of in this picture......

There was certainly a LOT of stress on that limb.
Funny how some trees simply refuse to believe in gravity.
That was a fun day and a great tree, Stephen. I think about it a lot.

Me 2 my friend.. Breaks my heart that we may never climb it again. That family has gotten so messed up... Drunks.... sheesh.
The old man moved away and got back with his wife or something like that, he is doing great. He about ended up in a looney bin.

I won't be moving it to my knowledge, and the dingo won't pick up most of it.
I figure the locals will whittle away at it for firewood as they need and the larger stuff will be dealt with eventually. I told the neighbour to let me know if the owners will let me cut some blanks for turning. Figure Stig may want one. Or call a ship builder for the long pieces. Probably some good wood in there.

Wow, that is really too bad.
Got some good memories from that tree.
