Oh I have no doubt but sell that to the American public .

Actually as I type from what I hear Ford is in fact delving into a small diesel and most likely a new modern design .Building it in Mexico of course which doesn't surprise me in the least bit .I have no idea what the target market is though .I doubt it's to the Mexicans and I doubt North America .

Shame. UK Fords are most excellent vehicles.

Well maybe that's where those Mexican diesel engines are going to .What model is that auto,I'll look it up and see ?

Hey you Fellas with the VW TDI's.........

We're in the market, figure the truck's diesel, we want to get a VW tdi.
Is there any years better than others, My friend said the pre 2002 turbos were not as good as after 2002.
Also any opinion on Automatic vs, Manual. I know 5 spd is better mpg, but low availability.

Pre 2003 was the older style PD engine. We have a '99 thats just turned 210k miles, with zero problems. I'm probably about to buy a 2003 model to replace it, as I'll still get a bit for the '99 model. I doubt any will give you grief.

Auto will loose you about 3mpg. The 2003 I'm getting is a 6 speed.

I prefer the pre PD motors. I have a 2000 with 220,000, no problems. Im looking for a 96-00 passat wagon. Have heard horror stories about 05 models fwiw

thanks, wanna get an old used one this year, 2012.
good to know.

The wifey has a 97 Saturn that just keeps going, gets at least 35mpg.
Hard to justify a new car but, would rather the biodiesel 100 here that's from SF City restaurant grease.
It's only 5 cents more a gallon than shell's diesel.

Shoot I would keep on keepin on with the saturn as long as it is reliable, 35 is good IMO. You will get better from a tdi say 45 but diesel is more expensive and you have to buy the car. Keep what ya got IMO

Gas scubys are solid in their own right.
Heck ... didn't Burnam just get one?
2010 Forester...it's been perfect for us. Advertised to get 27mpg highway, we regularly do better than that, up to and even occasionally over 30mpg. It's real sensitive to higher +/- grades and head/tail winds, so far as mileage goes.

Just spoke with a lady at the gas pumps today, she was filling up her diesel VW TDI. She said it had 176K miles, got 50 mpg and she absolutely loved it. She bought it brand new and diesel was 99 cents per gallon when she bought it. The car still looked like new.

Not sure, Butch. They all look alike to me but based on what she said about mileage and the price of diesel when she bought it, I'm guessing it's about 10 years old.
