thats funny shit Al, great thread and derail tangents, heres my Vplow design 47" wide when V'd, 4.5' wide when straight 2' high blade, + trip edges,
add 2 (optional) removable 1' wing extensions that have two positions makes it 6.5' wide, plus the wings store on the plow when not used,

Shes a complicated bitch (4me), we start welding #1 next week

That's very similer to a blade of which I forget the name of already in production for pick me up trucks . They do work well I'll have to say that .

The one major problem skid steers have for snow plow work is that they don't have enough speed to make the snow flow away from the track. Once the ridge is as high as the blade height, you have to push perpendicular to the ridge to get enough space for the next snow fall. If you look at the plows on highway snow crews, the blade is a little over 190 degrees (Of a circle). This allows them to utilize speed to clear the snow back from the track so it doesn't just blow right in again.

Looks like one heck of a design Dave! How much will it retail for?

That snow bank accumulation is a problem no matter what you are using . The big high highway plows even have a problem if they can't get enough speed to fling the snow .

On very very rare occasions I've seen 6 feet tall banks because of drifting conditions .That's when the road crews either break out a big Vee mounted on a trip axle dump or the front of a giant grader .Really bad they might have to resort to front end loaders .

How will the controls work for moving the wings?

I would think that most mini's would have a tough time pushing a blade 6.5' wide? Do people often use mini's for clearing snow? I'd assume from the looks of it that the cost is going to make it geared towards commercial use?

Imo the biggest(notice I said biggest not only) plus of a V is the ability to 'scoop' snow and take it all to one place. For me this allows me to do lots where there's no windrowing. Again I wonder if a mini has the weight or traction to be very useful at doing that.

I think in cincinnati that would be perfect. We usually see around 2-5" per storm and sometimes more so you could just pop the wings off for the deeper stuff. It would be great for plowing a car dealership and small driveways. After i get a BMG, ill buy one.

Mini seems slow to me for plowing is all.

I plowed a car dealership for three years with my full size pick-up. Frigging hated it, expensive target everywhere.

Minis will probably have a hard time with wet snow and the wings . . thats why they are Optional. The wings Are manually set, straight with the blade or slightly angled.
there are no medium sized ones or small ones that go down to 48" for blowing through sidewalks. It should be a real good match for the Gehl AL140.( 11MPH)

We sell this 8' V plow for skids, they run about $3800 weigh in at about #1100.

It has a cool Hyd Valve that runs the cylinders one after another so you can configure the plow to any angle. V plows are the way to go on a truck or skid, or at least one of the new ones with the pop out wings.

We havn't figured out how there little valve works and they don't know if they will sell us one. So for now we will have to use an electric crossover to control the 2 cylinders independently. Price . . . too early to tell lots of parts - subcontractors - hoping it will come out affordable we'll see how # 1 plays/holds out

Cool. I've heard that those Blizzards with the retractable wings jam up if you're not real careful with making sure they con't get crud in/on them that can freeze up. A few guys around here have them and they seem to work ok though. I prefer the V because I need to be able to quickly make my blade perfectly straight for the drop in corners and along edges of lots.

My son has a blizzard and i havn't heard him complain about the wings freezing. I bet after a wet snow and a deep freeze they could though. he also runs acouple vs on skids.

I used to do a lot of plowing, I hated plowing, boring, expensive obstacles, bone head drivers, and snows on Christmas

It took 2 months but here is the prototype, bunch a of things to change already.:|:
the wing rubbers are to short and they leave black smudges on the driveway:whine:
the wings need to be easier/cheaper to build
Happy for the first stab at it

Missed the season dammit . . . Ill get her fixed up for next year ;)

nice video. i just bought a plow from ditch witch. it works ok and in the hurry i was in, its better than using a bucket, but im here to tell all that are looking - dont buy a ditch witch. no replaceable cutting edge. mine started w/ about 1/2 - 3/4" cutting edge and in 2 days, the corners are about gone. maybe my newness has me trying to get too much up...i dont know. i paid just under $2k and in 2 days, its nearly paid for itself. It prolly would have had i really been hussling the work. I will be working w/ the dw guys in trying to make me a better plow for next yr.

Andy want to buy a prototype?
Okie glad we put the edge on also, can you post pics of the DW plow.
I bet it is made by Bradco.
