just another tree climber

Well, I just almost crippled myself falling down a staircase, so anything with steps on it gives me the willies.

Actually, I've always been leery of tall ladders.
 
I hate ladders. I'd climb up the formwork on structures before I'd use the ladder. They frown on that anymore. Fortunately the ladders are better installed, and go right into a platform, so it isn't usually as squirrely as it used to be.

I know the feeling, once of a a frame with 4 STEPS put a rib in for 2 weeks breathing was painfull.
And yes ladders are very dangerous
 
My concern would be that because there is more surface contact from the rope running IN the groove, there might be a tendency for the ring to spin, causing friction burn to the sling running through the eye. I spliced up a two-ring sling for heavy lowering. It does make for a smoother ride for me up top.
