In The News...

To an extent I suppose it is, you are killing each other on an industrial scale, breaking new records year after year.

When there is a Bataclan or a Nice over here, you know what? Our government try to do something about it, be it concrete blocks, or tighter security or investment in counter intelligence.

We had a huge market in my town over here after the Nice attacks, so the mayor got the farmers to park tractors and trailers blocking the entrances to the town to avoid a repeat.

Does it work? Sometimes, sometimes not, but the problem has been identified and an effort is made to stop it.

Something like Vegas or the countless mass shootings happens again and again and what does your government do? Nothing, less than frig all, just the way it is, nothing to be done, second amendment, George Washington, look out! here comes the King of England and all that.

Ps. Never have "Bob" why?

So you think making laws and outlawing different items is worthwhile regardless of whether or not the laws actually have the desired effect? Wow. Kneejerk reactions are awesome.

It took 10 days (might need a fact check) after Port Arthur in Tasmania for semi-automatic weapons to be banned...mass shootings since - 0
Yes, people still are injured and die from violence with firearms, but it is not the 'norm'.

My neighbour who is a farmer and a hunter had a boundary dispute with the asshat next door. He could not commit or threaten any violence against him at all, otherwise the police would be at his door pronto to take away his guns. No ifs, ands or buts. If you act up, your firearms licence will be pulled and your guns confiscated.

I feel very comfortable with my limited rights. I own guns lawfully, no issue. But it's hard enough to attain that I'd wager most don't. And that's the way I like it best.

And I've never shot a silenced weapon fwiw.

I don't understand the knee jerk reaction of people who think that 'gun control' means taking away ALL your guns.
I never got the impression that improved gun control in the US means an all or nothing. It's pretty obvious that would be impossible and well as impractical.
Legal gun ownership, harder to get than now...what's so wrong with that?

Not looking for a fight, just coming from a different perspective.

What should out govt do Mick?

It's a hell of a story but you are very unlikely to die in a mass shooting.

We could take all the guns but would that solve any problems?

We are probably one of the most violent cultures on the planet.

You can cut someone's head off on tv but don't you cuss....there might be kids watching.

You can't show a nipple but we can buy our kids video games where you can murder hookers.

Our govt is not sitting on its ass...its coming up with shit like the Patriot act.

If a bomber kills people we blame the bomber...

If a drunk driver kills people we blame the driver...

If somebody stabs somebody we blame the attacker...

If a "shooter" kills somebody we blame the gun...

What's wrong with this picture?

We didn't blame cars? They have to be registered, possibly inspected, and repeatedly licenced to the current owner, you need to repeatedly pass knowledge & operational tests, then get licensed to operate one , they are usually used under the watchful eye of law enforcement, in most cases you need to be insured in case of injury of others, there are drug, alcohol, distraction, and operational laws and regulations to follow when you're operating one...

seems everyone and everything was blamed in the transportation category...

as for knives, many places have regulations on what you can carry and what you're not supposed to.

drugs and guns are different. drugs literally grow from the ground and are used to treat oneself. guns are manufactured, intensively marketed, and sold on the open market like cars. I think they should be treated like cars. as a privledge. I don't get the whole I have the right to guns like its air or water, (many think those should be privledges too). having a gun is a great privledge and should be treated as such. with respect. people treat them like toys.

That's all well and good if you live in England but here in the United States we have this thing called the Constitution. And attached to that Constitution are these things called Amendments. The first 10 Amendments were called the Bill of Rights and one of those 10 rights is the right to own firearms. The rest of the world can accept governments who disarm their citizens but here in America we will never be legally disarmed. Don't like it, don't live here.

The only people you have targeted are the law abiding people Kevin.

There are people who drive cars every day with no license or a suspended license.

My daughter is one of them.

How do you stop that?

Montana is the wild wild west I guess. if laws are not abided than I guess there is nothing you can do. anarchy can be good I suppose. arent you guys the ones all hyped up about building a wall? like That's going to do any good...

I have never talked to anyone who wants a wall.

So if laws are not going to be abided by a percentage of the population....we should have more laws?

What if we made grey death double secret illegal? Meth? Cheeseburgers? Large sodas?

Phucking liberals. When they don't like the direction of the debate they change topics. GTFO of here.

I consider myself a liberal, so how bout them cubs? Lol in all seriousness tho, coming from a guy who lives 3 hours south of Chicago, who actually went to high school where firearms were discharged (one in line with my dad's classroom), I personally feel that gun control isn't going to work here. Most guns used in a crime are so mundane and common you would have to outlaw just about all firearms in order to stop it. And then it would take generations to actually get all of them rounded up, because millions of them are traded illegally every day. Even if you were to do all of that, I'm afraid the whole reason we have them as the 2nd amendment is to overthrow the government. That's why the amendment exists in the first place. Now we have reached a point where the technology exists that overthrowing the government is almost impossible, and limiting which weapons of war the average Joe is allowed to have has helped achieve that. But the fact remains that we as a society have collectively chosen that everyone should be armed and dangerous, and if everyone has the ability to kill, terrible stuff like this will happen all too frequently.

This particular crazy guy had modified weapons (bump stocks), which basically turned everything he had into fully automatic weapons. It's an act of God there aren't hundreds dead. It is completely senseless, and pointless, and there is no justification of this heinous act. But the fact remains that if he didn't use a gun, he still could have easily done what he did. Concrete barricades stop cars, but a stolen dozer could have done exactly what he did. So could explosives, or a hijacked plane, or a chemical attack. Stopping crazy people can only be solved by addressing the actual problem: mental healthcare. Our country needs to start prioritizing healthcare, and get people like this the help they need and deserve. Our war against drugs continues to be a war, because treating addiction isn't where we spend our money. Chicago would cease to be a war zone if we took the profit out of drugs. This is where Europe has us beat. The fact that they don't have guns means nothing, it's their approach to drugs and mental health that limits the violence they experience. And the fact that sex is normal there, I firmly believe if you put hardcore porn on tv here, everyone would be wayyyyyyyyyy more mellow.:spermy::lick::smokin::sleepy2:

Nice post Kyle.

Still, I wonder about the people who can't be fixed or treated.

Can't stop em all I suppose. We are a terribly violent people.

Honestly though, I think the media is partly to blame. Nothing like a news outfit to keep the fires fanned.

If it's not the gays invading your town taking away your rights it's the Trump supporters.

If not them it's the horrible snowflakes. Maybe the rich white folks....or maybe the blacks.

Maybe everyone really is out to take everyone else's rights and freedoms.
