I enjoyed August Huneke interview with Jerry Beranek a long time ago. It is on August’s YouTube. Jerry talked about doing pole climbing in Vietnam. Today I discovered some pictures and stories from that time on a FaceBook group called MA Bell. I will post here for the enjoyment of all who are not on FB. I drove my cousin's van home from market back in late 70's or early 80's. He worked for Ma Bell and his hooks and belt were in front seat. I thought I should try them out. First time up an old cedar pole nice and slow to get the feel for it. Second time I thought I got this, let's see how fast I can go. Jamming the spur in I pulled the other one out and whoops, it had gone in a big split in the old cedar. I got stopped, not sure how, but that was the end of climbing school.
