I think it's lodgepole pine that has to have a fire before those tough old seeds will germinate . Evidently they blow apart like popcorn and scatter the seeds in a circle .All I've ever seen was the pictures .I wouldn't know a lodgepole pine from a blade of grass .
You know in the broad scheme of things it appears at least me that the trees that seem to grow in fire prone areas have the ability to make a snappy come back .
Here in the eastern hardwoods if per chance the land is cleared by any method it will in time revert back to whence it came but it takes eons of time .
