Today I picked up a wireless laser mouse for the laptop. It's exactly what I wanted. 5 buttons, it isn't shaped to fit a right hand, scroll wheel, wireless USB connection and it was cheap. Now my laptop is just about as easy to use as my desktop. :D

It says it's ambidexterious, but I still see the back buttons on the left hand side. I like them in the thumb position.

I'm getting good at left handed mousing.

Not bad:

I need to play with Firefox again, IE is till locking up now and again on this machine.

There is no way I would go back to a desktop again Brian! I can set this up in the driveway, in the back yard and in a hotel, all in about five min! I tried a mouse, just pissed me off when I sit on the couch, I got adjusted to the touch pad quickly and have come to like it.

Here's my setup, all completely wireless. And I can even plug in my camera, download images, resize and then post them to the forum. :D

You may even be able to plug your camera chip into the computer. I love that feature

I can pick up as many as 8 different wifi signals at my house, but only two are unsecured and one of those is too weak for me to connect. I was looking at wireless routers at Sam's today and the Linksys (recommended brand) was almost $60. I will pick one up after I get back from vacation. And I will most definitely secure it (require a password) when setting it up.

will it deepen how far are single go's. with 802.11.b you can go far, but is slower on up lode & down lode 802.11.g is what most computers run it is faster then b but dose not go as fare
now all newer mac's (with in the last 3 years) can run 802.11.n the fastest you can get for wire less network. but the shotes destines but this all deepened on how fast your provider is. No point in going the with the fastest router if you have a slow provider. but if you do a lot a file sharing on your home network get a 802.11 g router. (PS3 & WII both run on 802.11.g) Now if you buy a new router most have 4 ports to hard wire things in like your desk top & printer. or you can us your desk top as a print sever.

And no mouse for me ether there no point when you can go anywhere with the laptop. I suffer in my back yard & front yard. Once you get used to the track pad your life will be so much nicer. We have 4 laptops in the house and none have mouses pug in them.

One of my old neighbors set me up to leach his wifi. It was cool until someone tried to hack his work site then he had to lock it down:cry:
I have mine secured, you have to have the password AND you have to plug the laptop into the router with a cat5 cable the first time to make everything happy.
If you get a router don't use the damn CD unless they have made HUGE changes (for linksys). Just type in the router address, in the manual, and set it up that way. I don't know why the CD is so screwed up but the addy is 100 times easier!
I want to say the average range is 50yds? I can sit in the kitchen in the house caddy corner from me and surf, slower, but surf. Anywhere around my house, it's just fine. And once it's secured, it's hard to hack it!:)

I call India when I need help with my router as I can't figure out how to do the security alone.

Rob could walk you through it... He sets the routers all the time here. We are WiFi here on the property. Broadcast between the two houses. We have a few linksys and he is pretty familiar with all the settings I believe.

Vista makes most stuff pretty much 'plug and play'. In two years I haven't had to load software for any hardware I've added. Just plug it in and Vista automatically recognizes it and loads the appropriate drivers.

I've also heard that the Linksys is set up for 'plug and play' whereas some of the cheaper brands aren't. By the time you buy the extra crap you need to set them up and all the time involved, it's better to just buy the Linksys router.

First bug in the new 'puter. When the wireless mouse is plugged in the left USB port, the speakers quit working. I unplugged the mouse and plugged it in a different USB port on the right side and I got my sound back.

:?

Hellllllllllllllllll no.

Are you shutting the PC down to plug it in and swap ports or are you doing it powered-up (hot swapping)?
