I think RRR has Wi-Fi. I'm not familiar with Vista but usually you go into the control panel and then either network connection or network connection wizard. My daughter poaches signals from her neighbors all the time in SF. I just called her and she said that she has a wireless connection in the tray that she double clicks to activate that stuff.

RRR does have WiFi. I can see it now.........everyone will be sitting around the campfire with their laptops on their laps, online at the Treehouse talking to each other and not communicating verbally!

Been updating Windows all evening. Every time I think I'm done, I run Update again and there's more. I think it's good to go for now (I refuse to download IE8). Now I'm loading Ad-Aware.

I can't believe that a laptop from Sam's on a borrowed WiFi signal is faster than my desktop hooked up to my $50 per month cable connection.

The connection is slower but the computer is faster. I've been telling you guys how much I hate my desktop 'puter. If I get a decent mouse for this thing I may dump the desktop permanently.

No, it's just an underpowered POS. I've been quite aware of what's running on that computer and Vista is the biggest problem. This laptop has twice the RAM of that desktop which makes a huge difference.

Brian, think Firefox for browser, I have been on it for a couplefew months now and it is WAY more stable with way less popups and shit than IE. It is a bit of a RAM hog though.

I've had good luck with Google Chrome also, but my ad blocker doesn't work with it. And I simply don't like the look or feel of Firefox. Reminds me too much of AOL. I've had it on two different computers and never used it. I have zero popups and almost zero ads so that argument means nothing to me.

Now that I have a second 'puter, I may take the old POS back in and let them add more RAM or something.

no worries, like the child and the spinach, you tried it, you didnt like it, you choose otherwise, all good. :D

it should bring up an avaialable networks for the wireless.......maybe poach a neighbors signal

I'm pretty sure the nerd kid next door got a free ride for a couple of months. I'd hear him come home, then I'd get a strange noise from my PC.

Got the blocker thing put on and haven't heard it since, and I do see him outside sometimes now.

here is my at 1 spot and the second spot this is on a wireless network running 802.11.g at the opposite side of the house one floor down

That's mighty quick, Travis. I'm too cheap to have that kind of speed. :P
I did get my wired router working so I can plug both computers into my cable connection at the same time. I'll probably get a wireless router at some point. But in the meantime I can get a marginal signal in about half the rooms of my house from one of my neighbors. I can see 4-5 different wifi signals but most are secured so I can't tap in without a password.

Yes it is but I thought it was slow till it saw what the others were posting. you need to get a wireless router . i like i said suffering the web on the couch is great. I'm on the couch now an watching NCIS at the same time.

Hey Andy,
I decided to try Firefox again just for the laptop and it seems to work a lot better with the touchpad. I also wanted an ad blocker and wasn't going to pay for it again like I did on the desktop. The Firefox ad blocker works perfectly.

I may end up running Firefox on the desktop also unless I can get the speed up. I'll see how it goes for a few weeks on the laptop before I make that decision.
