Those sort of things always amaze me. Watched a doco a few weeks ago about finding Roman graffiti on cliff face in England.

Turned out it was an old Roman quarry from building Hadrians wall 1800 years ago, they were cutting rock for the wall. Apart from complaining about their bosses they were worried about falling into the river below.

Climbers had all modern gear, what the hell did Romans use?

Romans used steel balls. You could hear them drag the ground as they approached to climb Im sure
