210 ft Redwood Removal

Looks like you have a good thing going out there... Your passion and physique stand out at your age.... I'm only two years older than and I can't stand in the hooks for 30 minutes anymore.... Gotta have my fun from the bucket truck, which has its perks!

Daniel, you've been at this a hecka long time. Have you ever been to a sports medicine doctor/ physical therapist/ etc for an eval and possible corrective meaures?

For my shoulder, in addition to PT exercises, it just a matter of posture. Climbing and leaning out of a bucket can pull the body forward. I need to focus on straighter posture, shoulders back, thumbs turned out.

People have often said tree workers need to go to the gym for balance.

Probably right about that, Sean. The work is tough on the body, after many years, but then it keeps the body tough. I was in never better shape than when I was climbing regular.

Now timber falling was much harder on my body. The falls, bruises, broken legs, ribs. Not much romance in that part of it.

I believe Daniel bust his ankle a while back doing something innocuous hence the difficulty in spurs.

Ps Go to the gym for balance? How does that work? I don’t even...

Not for agility type balance...a climber better already have that.

For strength balance....improperly balanced opposing muscle groups can cause alignment/postural anomalies.

I was doing a lot of pushups at 1 point in my training...not enough back muscle work. I started getting rounded shoulders. Took a massage therapist to figure it out...proper massage and adding seated rows etc. straightened things out.

Depends on the level of performance you desire.

Just get on with it.
to me translates into hoi polloi...nothing wrong with that.

Personal drive and how one wants to interact with their world is a large part of it.

Thanks Murphy. I do love what I do and I'm doing my best to keep my shit together physically so I can keep doing what I do as long as possible.

Remember to take care of your hearing... I've always been anal about hearing protection because I just hated l hated the sound of a screaming saw. They are finding out now that hearing loss is really hard on the brain, creates a lot of confusion as the brain has to over work to make sense of the muffled words... I AM hoping to make it to 100 in good working order... so I think about taking care of the body for a LONG time... not quite tree time. Good luck with it!

“Performance” I’m just looking to get the job done, clear up, collect the ch?que, go home.

It’s not sports.

I’ll tell you what I’m anal about. The use of the word “anal” in any context except categories on a porn website.

 That's good.

I meant: Hoi polloi (Ancient Greek: οἱ πολλοί, hoi polloi, "the many") is an expression from Greek that means the many or, in the strictest sense, the majority.

I want to have the option of doing something like this...helps collect the check sometimes.:D

Thanks...I post that kind of thing with you in mind. I know you are of a similar mind when it comes to "those kind of things." :)

Can't get the truck airborne. Like the Spruce Goose, it can't overcome the ground effect.
I'll have to wait for the Atlantic ocean to freeze in winter, so I can drive across.

Ditto massage and physio for balance, unbalanced muscles and incorrect posture lead to a pinched nerve in my neck...numb arm and hand, Physio fixed that. Now doing physio for the knees, and the physio said I lean to the right when doing the squats...unbalanced.
Gawd, an unbalanced female arbo...look out below!!!

Eric: I know NOTHING about, 1) Milling, and 2) Redwood... so, uhhh... Why is that wood black? Does it have to do with metal interacting with the wood, or do you paint em with something to seal em?. Also couldn't help noticing that pro-buck. Do you hand-file round, or machine-grind square? What do you do?

Also: Will that wind shake in the middle mess up the boards much?
