Woodworking

I asked my eldest daughter what she wanted for her birthday, she shocked me with her answer.

She asked to build her a Bat-House !

At first I thought she was kidding, but she was serious.

So being the good dad that I am...

(See pics.)

Now my youngest asked me to build her a Blanket-Ladder for her Birthday.

I'd be happy to make one for her but first I need to figure out what a Blanket-Ladder is !

LOL

Looks like it's stacked. Just like doing a Lincoln log house, but with fancier joints. Not sure how you get the joints so perfect, unless it's just as time consuming as it looks.

Good call John. Was definitely thinking it was some crazy joint, but the end grain suggests it's a stacked log cabin

the "logs" look more like beams/panels and I'd guess they are started at a more severe angle and the tails close/lock as they assume 90 degrees.

Works pretty good. I'm surprised. Now to fine tune it, hope in the near future I'll stick a gear motor on it and all I'll have to do is push buttons.

That was just a mock up to see if my idea worked. I set the sprockets in their final place and tightened the chain.

I milled some willow last year, pulled it out of the kiln. I milled it 4" thick, came out 3 1/4". Doesn't look bad. In the old country it was called gypsy wood (good for nothing wood). I have some smaller pieces that I am going to sand and see how it takes oil finish.

I'll be interested in seeing how it finishes out. looks like it has a bit of a satiny thing going on.
