Really, we get these ahi steaks wild caught from Viet Nam flash frozen in 3 oz. vacuum sealed portions about 1 1/2 in. thick. Very reasonably priced at our Winco, works out to about $10/pound.

Frugal luxury...our specialty ;).

A short visit with family up in Lancaster, PA yesterday (photo is wife and her three sisters) to see a niece and her husband we hadn’t seen in a few years ( they lived in Denver, moved to Madison about a year ago). Did not stay long as they have two large, long-haired dogs (Denali and Rainier) and with my dander allergies the clock was ticking…
Came home to our lack-of-tradition atheist Easter dinner: Matter Paneer, cranberries cooked with clementines and walnuts, and salad.

Huge success on the soup. Five minutes prep, 45 minutes cook time, many bowls of soup. I've got to figure out the best way to freeze portions. It would be easy to fill a freezer with different soups.

The last of my split pea soup. Ran out of propane, so I had to rig a camping stove that is most certainly older then I am. It was meant for the tall propane cylinders, but if you swing the gas pipe around, you can use the squatty one pounders. I'm looking for the next soup recipe right now.

I attempted to make a version of General Tso's bean curd in the air fryer. The tofu, rolled in corn starch, came out pretty well, but the sauce was gross.
I tried cooking brown rice in the instant pot. Something went horribly wrong.
Thinking about eating a celery right now.

Pork chop, baked tater, asparagus. Showed up at my bud's house to cut a box elder that was crowding a white oak he planted 25 years ago. Good timing on my part. He didn't know I was coming but had plenty for me. I tried calling him when I was on my way. No answer. Figured he was napping or eating. When he saw me and came out he said you should have come in. I knew my daylight left was about perfect so I started pruning and setting ropes. Got done and food still warm.
