I'll be graduating high school soon and my parents asked me what I wanted as a graduation present. I told them a pair of custo Wesco Highliners. (im probably the only kid that wants a pair of boots for a graduation present :D)
Anyways I have a few qustions:
Do most climbers need or have steel toed boots? Is double steal shanks make a difference? and what is a good height? I'm thinking 12" would be good...
Is there any other advice you can give? :?

Thanks! :)

Thanks, thats what I thought. They do have steal toe in the semi lace to toe version, but not lace to toe. I don't think it would be worth it though.

lotta utility guys use the double shank, or put two soles on their boots. Because they stand on those narrow metal rods on poles or their spurs all day.
Hardly need them for tree work. You want your boots to flex a bit so you can climb around in the tree.
Hope this helps

Steel toe boots are good for people working in a warehouse moving pallets of stock around. I've only had one employer ever require steel toe boots and that was a gummint job, so that pretty much explains that.

Just keep the skinny end of the saw away from any vital body parts. ;)

Yeah, I figured they wouldn't help much in a tree.
And thanks for the advice

Has your foot re-gained it's original size? I remember it took a long time for the swelling to go down.
Also how is the circulation?

I have steel toes in all mine.
Both the highliners and the caulked ones I use for falling.
It's required here and also, always having worn steeltoed boots, I' have never developed the habit of being careful of things falling on my feet.

i like steel toes on the ground, i used to wear em in a tree, but i have the 12 in wesco's and they dont have the steel toe, i was told those were custom, ordered on;line

Circulation is fine, just a lotta nerve damage. My foot isn't any bigger, but the toes are super sensitive.
