"38.5?" Are you sure about that .5??
So you like the zk1, eh Jed? Ever tried the 2? Just curious.
Are the valve stems exposed, Mick? On the Parks' skidder I ran, there was a shield of threaded pipe cap, on a piece of pipe, welded on the rim. Probably easy to add.
I knew someone was going to call me on that. That came about because I was pissed at our salesman who wrote up the job as a "33" dbh, Cottonwood. I stuck a tape around that pig and divided by pi. hence the .5. You see I'm not messin' around. I'm sort of the Barney Fife of the tree world.
Uhhh... the zk1... lets see... it's got this super scary, tiny, tiny, little ball-lock deal on the slick-pin holding the whole thing in there that just scares me sideways. It's never popped out, but it's just wrong. The new one doesn't have that. It's got this way bigger wedge shaped deal that wouldn't pop out if you smashed it with the butt of an axe. Never tried the zk 2, but my new young friend has that in addition to the rope-runner which I did try. Let's just say that once we get our greedy little paws on those, we certainly won't be messing with any stupid wrenches anymore.

Jed, it doesn't matter if the RW comes off, its not life support. It friction sharing. The hitch will lock up. NO worries. IF that were to come loose, and be lost, you'd just need to use some boot friction instead of RW friction to keep the hitch functioning to get down, or change to DdRT.
That's a lot of tree there, Rich
Jed, wrench may always have a place. I find it the smoothest rappel I've ever experienced. Especially with zigzag (shhhh) And I have a rope runner.
I still boast at work about the new (to me) trick of back-chaining the low stumps in such a way as to avoid dragging any sediment back through the cut.
