The Official Work Pictures Thread

Btw, AH, what saw pants do you like, chaps kinda suck, taking them on and off so often.

Ray, bummer on the sap but nice pics! Thank the lord for GoJo.

Only porn my Lord, wife, and priest allow me to watch Peter, and I suck it up with a straw. Thuja Plicata? (Trying out my redneck Latin for Western Red Cedar) or was it Leyland Cypress? Lusty stuff all the same. Love the cambium peels on the corners. :O
Does the ol' trick for me, it does... My hear-rate's faster... ohh, my dear...

August: Super gutsy fall, sir. Don't know if I could have done that one. My hat's off to ya. Best work pics sequence ever btw. I don't know whether you've got more skills with the lense or with the saw, but my money's on the latter. That chain's absolutely roasted though, sir. You ever think of getting a Silvey to square grind with? Square is infinitely better when you have to torch holding wood off in a hurry.

Ray: Good pics.

Deva: Beautiful Eucs. Tad jealous up here. Deep jealous over the crane.

Thanks, August.

No doubt discussed before, but, do you like em, are they more or less the best?

I went 39 years...without wearing them, but I'm committed now. A cut to the knee could just waaaay too easily and unnecessarily change life for the worse.

It often seems lame to cite years spent on the job, but what I'm trying to say is that despite all that time not wearing them, there comes a time to respect the odds. Huge pita that it may be

No Jed, I think most of us would have walked up and killed that tree.
If there was a bear chasing me I would have swung it without the line and been fine.
Sylvie grinder. Sold it and tons of other precious material things when I got divorced.
Lost interest for a while in everything but God and the two kids she left me with...and her.
Did Tree work for years after that like a factory clock puncher.
Only really started to care again about the beauty of hinge-wood moan and other "mundane details" (to quote Gary) when I got my helmet cam in 2012 I think...
Of course realizing I wasn't to blame for her ditching us and then eventually remarrying and having an extra batch of kids didn't hurt either LOL.
Sorry for all the TMI... No I'm not.

Yeah, I wouldn't be. Life hurts. (Sorry Mick). It's just stuff we have to go through down here sometimes. Believe me... I'm the one with the TMI.

Thanks, August.

I don't know if they are the best. They are the only ones I've ever tried. They are amazing though.

Good Pics!

Cory, was the cut a situation that caught you by surprise out of nowhere, or more mundane like a slip, or...?

It was mundane the 2 times i've been cut, once my first year and again a few months ago, were both essentially the same- the saw chain was coming back down to idle after a cut, I inadvertently let the bar touch my left knee. About 10 stitches or so each time. But the second time my mind was blown by how close I came to a bad life changing happening. Cant risk it anymore.

Probably. The most recent was just after finishing a backcut, stepping back, watching tree go over. Then, wack. Felt like getting hit with a hammer on the knee. 70cc saws.

Chaps suck! But I feel like I'm being really dumb if I don't use them, now.

Great pics all, love the story board August.
I like those situations.....
Customer "that sounds reasonable, when do you want to do it?"
Tree guy (pulling saw from truck) "now is good!"

Great pictures.

Cory, on the subject of saw pants, the ones August has started using are great (for me that it). I have been using pfanner or stretch airs as they were known, for years. I must have had about 7 pairs of them. Tbh I don't wear anything else. Being a tall bloke 6' 4" I used to have trouble finding pants with the legs long enough for me. The pfanners can be bought + 7cm and they fit perfect. For me the fit is a bit like jeans.

In the UK I have the Arborist type C or all round protection. But I have a couple of pairs of type A protection or front protection only that I leave in Norway. I still wouldn't like to put a large saw going full tit into them but on the 2 occasions I have hit them they have done the job.

It would curtainly work in the situation you described.

They are also vented at the back for extra breeze when you are starting to get Betty Swollocks. I appreciate is is hotter over there but once you get used to saw pants, you don't really notice them. Well I don't any way.

It always amazes me how guys who habitually wear chaps always end up getting chain nicks, and little cuts all over them. It's as if they're like, "Ha. I'll be fine, I've got CHAPS on!"

I've never cut my legs at all with a saw, chaps or no.
I figure I must be careful or something. Cut my big toe nearly clean off at the base once though. Ruined the boot too.

My chaps, thankfully, though the years have only been damaged by employees with nicks from dogs and non-moving chains, oh, and a muffler burn.

Previously, when I worked at the Conservation Corps, there were lots of chaps with the spinning down chain/ holding the side of the wrap handle-- left thigh damage. EVERY pair was damaged there, except one possibly by a lefty who use the saw primarily backwards (its overall a right-handed machine).

The two times I have contacted my legs...

1st time, I gaffed out in some ivy while cutting a lump off an adjacent stem. Fell towards the saw released the trigger and the saw touched my right thing. It didn't even pull much of the stuffing out as the saw was running down.

2nd time I was in a tight conifer hedge. There was a tiny twig messing with my rope so i casually bent down to nip it off with a 2 hundred and it kicked and hit the outside of my thing. Was a proper thump and the stuffing came out of the trousers but no other damage.

The saw pants or chaps are no substitute for safe working practices.
