The Official Work Pictures Thread

A lot of responsibility in that seat. I ran an old grove crane for a few hours one day unloading forms. It was cool but I was nervous as hell

I know three long experienced crane operators that are now retired. They seem average blokes with a pretty good sense of humour, so I can attest that the occupation doesn't make you a weirdo or anything. Well, one guy does go to bed at 7PM, then wakes up a few hours later to have his alcoholic drinks, then goes back to bed around ten. A little unconventional, that's all.

Little blow and go in triple digit temps. Made bank and then went and did estimates all day.
We had come to do this tree before but they had just laid fresh chip seal. Of course no one called us to tell us. So we did this after a couple months for it to set up.
Tarps kept the clean up to a min on the fresh tar and gravel.
Used the new 150T on this one. I like it!

And some little chipper action :D

The 1250 would have actually been too big for this job. Turn arounds and steep drive were issues. Tree all done with clean up in 2 hours.

just deadwooding a nice size grey pine today solo, phone in pocket...trimmed 6 other trees with a pole saw :|::|:

Do we have a best guess as to what causes summer sudden limb drop?

Yes!

My best bet is when we have our days of high heat or heat wave the tree's here go into survival mode and pull up a lot of water, more than normal, add in the new growth/foliage from spring and SBD happends

Asking homeowners, they almost always say it occurred in the late evening....

Wouldn't the tree lessen transpiration in the heat to conserve it's water resources? Or perhaps increases transpiration to help hot weather survival, as you say.

Tree biology, not my strong smoot:/:

Edit: We simul posted, BOTS!

Studies have shown it nearly always occurs in the afternoon/evening. My only experience of it was around 2 pm.

Still air, resulting in very little evaporation gradient from leaves to air is implicated.

My experience is with a 2am cottonwood.

I wonder if irrigation factors in.

Wanted to top this dead Madrone stub before doing at the butt. I didn't want to set a line above, and didn't want to climb it attached only to it, or put my gear on for one cut.

Just another stub that could eventually fall on the new asphalt driveway where the old one under the power lines is being torn out and replaced.

What music to my ears while piecing out this other maple lead, that it wasn't a recoat but a tear out and replace of the asphalt. I only put a few dents in the edge.

Got to get every blade of grass!! this is at the local grade school where I've done work and know the maintenance manager. a bunch of trees with lawn mower itis. but I bet he got that dang grass.

Had a heavy 3 days pruning in Frederickstad. An old town surrounded by a moat in southern Norway. 17 trees pruned and 1 dismantled between 3 climbers. Deadwood, lift and cut backs from the buildings. 36 hours in 3 days with the travelling. Lovely work but as we were staying away we had to get the job done.

Day after we got back from Frederickstad this large knackered pine had to be removed. Heavily decayed at the base and half way up with a full crown on top. Power and utilities cabled to avoid. The boss originally wanted and 80 t crane to assist the dismantle but it would have meant a road closure. Didn't want to rig the tree so decided on cut and chuck to avoid any shock loading. The boss decided to do it due to the nature of the decay and the fact we were pretty screwed from the previous three days effort.

Got to admire the quality of leading from the front. Anyway, managed to get a few pics of him in action.
