I can't see how that tree did much in the way of shading her house.

All moss beneath. The leaves help a lot. There is a patio on the western exposure. Late day sun. Tree is 16' tall by the hot part of summer, which is short. 30' wide.

I wonder where I could go look at one of those pruners, in person.

There are many different ones on the market. Previously, I thought they were around $2500 for the backpack type battery packs. Seems like a fruit tree/ orchard forum might exist with some people with experience.

I've tried them back when I cut branches for x-mas decorations.
When you cut about a ton of 3 foot fir branches a day and bundle then in 10 pds bundles, it makes for a LOT of cuts over a season.

I found the electric pruners to be too slow and imprecise, they were costing me money.

For lots of little snipping cuts,like that birch, they are REALLY slow.

Imprecise is what I imagine, too. Maybe it would help if they had a "variable speed" feature.

It looks a little nippy out your way Jim. It's short sleeve weather here. Took down some 80+ year old, 75' long leafs just down the road from the cemetery and hit a nail at about the 20 year ring on one of the felling cuts. It's kind of sobering to think the guy that drove that nail was probably laying in a box just down the street. Dang his hide!

I can see that. Watersprouts on that birch and fruit trees are mostly good with hand pruners. I don't want to go fast now, and ruin my wrists, though. I wonder why they are imprecise compared to regular pruners. I can see that when crowded, you can't close them part way, position for a cut, and cut.

What were you cutting with them Stig?

Tree from Friday. When I looked at the video footage I thought I had exaggerated the height of the face cut on the downhill side of the tree by saying 8 feet. Went back and looked at it. It's well over 8 feet. in the video it just looks like a smooth gentle slope to the river. Video and pictures are nothing like real life.

Is that a fungus carried in on a beetle? Is it a 1-2 punch against the pine? What kinds of pine get it?
