28" left a small, rotten center post of wood, popped free with wedges, after threatening to get the bottle jack.

Another load of wood on my 6x12... my hauler, Charlie, got tied up, and didn't have time today. Still lots more coming off this job.

With the heavy lean, and how much they are splitting now, i wonder if lumber is a waste of work, or firewood is a waste of slabs.

You're still figuring out the mill, right? Might be good practice wood. Maybe you'll get good slabs, and if not, they'll still burn. Maybe work out quartersawing. Get a routine down for when you get some nice logs.

@davidwyby I understand that there may be specific circumstances where skilled and safety oriented people may stay on the stump. Not trying to start a debate. It’s good to see your videos where you retreat by the book.
I was in the woods, $#€+ flying everywhere and the tree may hang and slide back on the stump (despite my stump shot) or roll.

August has a lot more exp and was in a field with only one (live) tree.

That was a pretty tree. That's the way it is, sometimes.
Yes it was a nice one.

There were a few pockets of rot on the stems and the tree had quite a few areas where wire had girdled the stem.

I found some chicken fencing wire near the top, just draped over a lateral limb.. Apparently, in the past it had been used as some form of antennae.

The customer wanted it out and I was asked to do it for one of the guys I climb for.

I like the ice lilly pads in that first pic.
'Ice lilly pads'- good description. Yes Austin, great pics 'cept for the cabin.

That water does look inviting, particularly cuz I snowblowered a bunch of snow into the farm tub this morning when clearing the driveway so when I dunked later, all that slush felt curiously good. Not trying to hijack your post, just saying the AK water looks pretty fine.

How does a civilian go about renting one of those cabins?
