Did that break while running???
I only saw one break at speed...I was running a bow saw, 50 years ago and must have hit a rock. The whirling sound of the screaming scythe making its way thru the woods stayed with me. We never did find the chain...it would have killed someone in front of me.
I don't let people stand in front of my bar as a result of that incident.

Do you know what brand chain that is, Rich?
Could salvage it if you got a breaker and spinner. Maybe it’d do it again in a different spot though.

It could be a big nail or other sturdy foreign object. Once, a couple of carpenter nails sheared a tooth right off my chain. The hit was hard enough to punch a groove across the bar rails.
Brand new chain of course, because the previous one just died from finding a pocket of small nails. 14 nails in 2 cuts on this trunk

Usually, it isn't a concern. But when it happens, it isn't really fun and makes me feel stupid too. That tells me that I waited a bit too much to shorten my beard.

Had a good day on Saturday. I could feel each trunk going more vertical each time I was taking a limb off. It was a good change from the crispy dead ash trees.

It was a Stihl chain. Broke right after starting yesterday. Made a few quick cuts and f#%€ me. Oh well. Lower it down and send another saw up. I’ve complained before to my dealer and they said they would show the reps and that’s about as far as I’ve gotten. Not a common occurrence but not my first either. That was off my 201tc and was the chain that came on it. It was only two weeks old. It also was not the PS3 I prefer to run.

I've only broken a 192t chain that had some bad pinches on it from storm work. WOT coming down on top of the limb for a quick severing and flat drop of the limb, and I saw the chain fling off when i hit wood. Never found it.
I've seen some hard-used Stihl chain have one strap broken, and one still pulling the chain, on a crew member's saw that I was sharpening. Maybe twice in 15 years. 3/8s, .050 gauge.

Hi Sean,
I cleaned up the mast and swung every branch using it as the top rigging point. Some were rigged with a controlled speedline and others were lowered slowly and pulled away from the front bushes. It was a great situation to try lowering techniques. The ground guy loved the speedline.

Patiently waiting on the youngin to reach his tie in point. He stripped most of the tree out. I was dressed to ascend rapidly if needed. He couldnt bring himself to take the tops. For those that don’t know, Norway maple is a brittle tree that hinges terribly. At least in my neck of the woods. A few of his cuts freaked him out the way they popped so he came down. Gotta get them learned up while still meeting production isn’t easy but has to be done
