Spit shines were popular with some of the folks with ancestry south of the border, when i was a youngster. They really worked them, the tips of their shoes could shine like a mirror. Try and do that, make Butch a happy fellow!
 
When I was a Marine, I had the art of spit shining mastered. Mastered I tell you. Lots of booze, music, and saliva. I could make mirrors with leather........
 
I've never been down with the mink oil stuff. Nothing beats good 'ole shoe polish. If I want to make them water resistant, I'll use Vaseline.
 
Better products than a petroleum based one for that, Butch. Wax based will preserve the leather better, I think. Applied the same way, too.
 
Having used both Mink oil and SnoSeal, which I think the latter being a wax based product, the Snoseal protection seems to last better.
