New grapple from Reg

I enjoyed seeing the Reg videos of traversing with a grapple. I don’t need one but I looked anyway. The particular one he used was difficult to find online. Now he has worked with Notch to make one available that looks like 1/3 of his old grapple.

I have been using mine quite a bit. Reg'd promo/tutorial videos were useful. I dedicated my rope wrench to it and a 50ft line

I don’t have one of Reg’s grapples, but I do have a DMM Captain hook, which is a similar, though non-folding device. I have yet to use it aloft, but we cut a water oak a few weeks ago that was leaning out over a small pond. Like way beyond 45° leaning. We dropped it into the pond and dragged it out with the loader. A couple of sizable branches broke off out in the pond. A short length of rope and the Captain were all I needed to drag them to shore so we could haul them off.

Yesterday, I used my Captain Hook.
I see the problem on big fir branches being too large for the hook.
The hook jammed and I couldn't shake it loose. It was secure enough. Worked out.


The RC grapple might be much better for such a situation.

I played with it in a large Japanese maple. It’s gonna be a game changer on trims and a little lesser so on removals. Pretty easy to get it to latch as well as unhooked.
