I don’t have one of Reg’s grapples, but I do have a DMM Captain hook, which is a similar, though non-folding device. I have yet to use it aloft, but we cut a water oak a few weeks ago that was leaning out over a small pond. Like way beyond 45° leaning. We dropped it into the pond and dragged it out with the loader. A couple of sizable branches broke off out in the pond. A short length of rope and the Captain were all I needed to drag them to shore so we could haul them off.

Yesterday, I used my Captain Hook.
I see the problem on big fir branches being too large for the hook.
The hook jammed and I couldn't shake it loose. It was secure enough. Worked out.

The RC grapple might be much better for such a situation.

I just saw a short video about a tubular metal throw hook. I remember that hook was sold by arborist supply houses. Now it seems unavailable. I can’t remember who made it or what it was called. Help jog my memory please! Also have any of you used that hook?
