This guy got some Puget Sound water in him on Sunday, when with his half-time human owner, not with us. Labored breathing and lethagic. Almost went to the emergency vet. Could have been ingestion and/ or inhalation.
He got better after a few hours.
Next day was better. Tuesday he was ready for the ball.

Happy for the latter half of the week!

Remember when I told you about the fencing project that had Thais running 20-30 km a day?Yesterday I took him to my friend the vet for an x-ray.
He has been gimping around for 4 days.
Nothing broken, just a sprain.

He gets on Metacam for the pain, which is dosed by weight.

So the vet told me to put him on the scale.
"No reason to, he weights 33 kilos", said I.
He insisted and the scale showed 38 kilos.
Thais has put 10 pounds of pure muscle on during the fence project!!!!

The vet said, he had never seen a 9 year old dog in such a shape.

I love her color!

Thanks. Different lighting makes her look pretty dark but a lot of the time she looks grey. Before the differentiation between the Norske Elghund they used to be referred to as Big Greys.

We have another Jämthund that lives behind us. Not seen them for a while but we bumped into them as we were getting out of the car near the woods.

As you can see from the photos nearly all of the breed are similar looking. We are going to organise a pack walk with them and another guy not far from us. He has two of them, purely hunting dogs.

Kira and kala.

Whatever you do, don't get a Norwegian Buhund.
They bark non stop, all day long.

She is beautiful, are you going to use her for what she was bred to do?

Here are Uncle Bert and nephew Harry Winston (not actually related), the English Labrador retrievers! Both were intended to be show dogs, but didn't make the cut (my kind of dogs). I think Bert was about 10 years old in this image and the puppy, Harry Winston, was only a few months. As all the young people say these days, "super adorbs...!" They are performing what I call an "inverse spoon," where they are spooning, but the little spoon has chosen to present his back to the big spoon's chest with his head to towards the opposite side. This can occur similarly with the big spoon presenting his back to the inward facing little spoon whose head is on the opposite side. There are several other orientations, but they all fall under the same umbrella category of "inverse spoon." I think we all know what a "true spoon" looks like! If you can't already tell, I LOVE dogs and I have all kinds of stupid terms for their behaviors.

That is the plan Stig.

Difficult part is getting some Elg hunting locally. The Local branch of JFF don't do organised Elg hunting. However, they do in Moss, about 50 min drive. Moss branch of JFF also do free dog training on a thursday evening and have specialist Jämthund sessions.

I have been allocated a ticket for Rådyr locally. I have one of Stine's family over on the west coast who has Elg and Hjorte allocations but he is a bit sick at the moment. We will be seeing them later in July at a family celebration so I will see how he is feeling.

The local Elg hunting is pretty closed off, but I am meeting with a few others with Jämthunds who hunt. There may be opportunities with them, but will have to wait and see.

The alternative is to try and get her certified as a search dog for downed / winged animals. I know a breeder close by who does this with his two Jämt's but it is very time consuming and during hunting season they are on call pretty much 24h. Not sure If I have that much time on my hands.

She is so calm in the house and loves to be in the woods. I am thinking of buying a kick bike for the dog/family so she can get fitter and into pulling. Good fun as well as there are loads of syklevei's around here. She could pretty much do 10km without being near a road, then there are the tracks in the woods. The missus will also Ski with her. These activities are on hold for now though until she is older and the ligaments and tendons are stronger - around 18 months.

Hanging out with the big boys and girls. Some joggers had a few funny looks when it looks like a pack of wolves on leads coming towards them. 😁.

Went for a wander yesterday with Cala (bitch) and Max and Odin (big boys). Cala got a bit jealous I think as the boys were giving the new girl on the block all the attention.

This is what Harry WInston looks like when you catch him waking up. Such a confused looked. I love the random facial wrinkles that magically appear when he's tired. Everything obviously relaxes when you're half asleep, so that's my explanation.

@biggun
Rich, do you think you have taken more photos of your dog than you ever did of your children😂

Almost 😜

I have loads of them as well but I never saw an “Official Kids of the house thread”.

It’s the modern era Mick. So easy to point and click a phone and have the snap for eternity.

Was he slobbering like a waterfall?
My dog went for a swim on our anniversary and I didn't think she would make it.

12 hours later it was like nothing had happened.
