Now I am settled in Norway we are looking at getting a mutt. The kids are on to me to get one. I grew up with gun dogs and would have loved to bring my dads last dog over but he gave it to a friend who works him daily.
We looked after a friends dog a few weeks ago. Finnish Lapphund called Felix. He is a beaut. There was a possibility of getting one of his pups as he was brought down from Finnish Lapland to increase gene diversity.
I have wanted a slightly larger dog and another friend has a Swedish Jämthund. Stunning dog. I almost adopted a husky a couple of months ago as I was having trouble finding a breeder of the Jämthund who would sell us one. Then the breeder of the bitch (mother of my friends dog) got in touch and we have our name on the list for a pup if the litter takes, early in the new year.
We had occasion to meet a handsome lady dog on a semi local walk/bike trail a couple of days ago. I am enamored with this previously unknown to me breed. A rare one on any account. Here is one link...
But I expect the cost for a rare purebred would be silly high...and I know there are innumerable lovely pups of indeterminant background that need homes.
All our other dogs have come from rescue situations...I doubt when it comes time for the next one it will be any different.
But I sure did take a shine to this Chinook breed.
