The Joke/Funny Pic/Video Thread

White goods are so incredibly cheap these days compared to 36 years ago.
Far more energy efficient as well.
So they only last 10 years? So what? Take them to the recycling centre in a decade and get a new one.
It's a PITA, and I'm skeptical the overall consumption justifies tossing it sooner. Aside from energy costs to the end user, the raw materials, manufacture, and shipping of a major appliance aren't free. I also don't want any "smart" junk on my appliances. Aside from being spyware disguised as a trivial convenience, they don't get updated, so you have a vulnerability in your network. "Just don't connect the internet..." It's still crap to break, and 10 years in generous. Has an LG fridge ever lasted that long? Reading around, people get about half that. New junk isn't reliable. Leave the house for a week, and come home to a shitstorm cause your ice maker sprung a leak, and the fridge quit fridging. I like the solid reliability of old tech. and if it costs me an extra $20 a year to run it, it's cheap insurance.

I'll give you that. Old CRT tvs and monitors were terrible. It was a major undertaking moving any tv that wasn't "portable", and the "portable" tvs stretched the definition to incredulity. The only good things you could say about them is the display updated faster, and the blacks were truer, but modern (o)led tech gets close enough, without the drawback of having a deadman sitting in your house.

You live in a place where energy still is extremely cheap.
Otherwise getting a new fridge that is way more energy efficient might seem like a better deal.

I guess we'll soon see about that, since according to Frankie, gas prices in the US will "soon" rise to 10$/gallon.
Now, I realize "Soon" is kinda vague, but it is coming right down the turnpike............mark my words.

This guy is somewhat of a local "celebrity" around here. He owns a Funeral Escort Service but has delusions of being a real policeman. There's a bunch of videos about him.
