Rather than spend the hoopla of super bowl weekend in town Terri and I decided to venture into the parks and record a few new trees for the record. And we found our way into Redwood national Park, Klamath, Prairie Creek and Humboldt redwoods. And a few other great places along the way.

Two of the trees in this post I have posted before, but went back to try and catch them in a different light. Don't know if any of you could remember back when I did. Nonetheless here are the most recent ones and they are some real dandies that I am proud to share. Enjoy the views

Those pics look so surreal... I'd love to strategically hollow out a cool dwelling within one of those. It would lead up, to a treehouse in the top. Wouldn't that be cool!

It's possible, Butch.

Fiddler, it's all tree above me.

There's some bigger ones out there I have seen pictures of, but the people that have posted those pictures do not give up the exact locations. It takes parking the rig and walking for hours beating brush to find them or just come back to the rig all scratched and beat up. That is what makes it all worth the while when you do find these special trees on your own.

Terri and I talked on the way back home yesterday about all the places we have been and the trees that we have seen and yet there are more places and trees to see. And quite possibly some that have yet to be recorded.

I used to live next an old redwood that was charred and hollowed out on the inside. It had lost its top at one point and a new top was growing about 50' up where the stove pipe ended. Someone had nailed boards on the inside to make it so you could climb up through the middle. The lower steps had been removed to keep folks from climbing it. I had a notion to put my spurs on the opposite feet and climb up the inside but never did.

Jerry do you know of anyone who's spurred up the inside of a redwood like that?

Great pics Jerry, man i wish i would of had my camera when i went out there a few years ago.I gotta go out there again one day.

Out in the woods I have seen spring board notches inside the hollows of burned out trees and evidence of even making the back cut from inside the burned out hollow. Truly some thing to wonder about. As far as climbing inside the hollow I have only seen what Ace Tree Master did in his wreck jobs of the burned out Eucs in the lands down under. Not where I live to date.

It's an adventure worth the time and travel to see all the great trees. Terri and I are planning to see Yosemite next month. Latter part anyway. Steve. Make it or bust because of weather we will be sure to try and connect with you and the family. Would be great to see you all in your natural habitat.

That would be awesome Gerry... Snow is melting pretty quick up there, but this is a great time of year to go with the less traffic it provides. Just give me a heads up as to when :)

Making the back cut from the inside? That sounds foolishly awesome! If I wasn't so fond of my wife and kid, I'd like to give that a try.

Making the back cut from the inside?
Making a back cut from inside the tree would certainly read epic on a tombstone

I know it sounds crazy, and I'd never do it, but what harm could come from that? I mean, I've never had/seen a tree collapse upon itself, at the stump... know whut I mean?

Its possible in a burned out tree not to mention no where to run and hide from falling debris but whaat a rush!

Great pictures as usual.
Have you posted pictures of that big burl with the ferns on top before. Look's familiar to me somehow.
