New type of Axe

Core blimey!

I can't figure out what the curved top hook thingie does.

I think its basically a weight to throw the head sideways (twist) on impact. It says in the instructions to leave the handle 'loose' in the hands at impact so it can rotate. :)

Pretty neat. You can do the same thing with a side glancing blow of an eight pound maul. If you are good, you split all the way to the last piece without tipping it over.

Definatly interesting axe or what ever you want to call it. Butch, that curved piece at the top may be for weight but also probably to stop your axe from following through and dulling the edge. However, as some mentioned in here it's white Birch and a good martial artist could split that with his hand...lol.

Most woods as you know that axe head needs to follow through in order to bust the wood apart unless it's a real flat grain. Theres a real art to splitting wood with axe ( not maul) and I dont think most know how. Thats why all these new typs of mauls and axes have come out to make things easier, which I dont blame them.:D

Why are those pieces so small. when we split wood for the furnace there are a lot bigger like 3x that size.

Man it twist like heck ,almost everytime you hit the wood.
That seems like and invitation for injury .

Ahh ! My bad Thats pretty smart. Any body ever learn to split wood from an old timer, say the early ninteen hundredes?

When splitting wood, generally the axe should come in contact at a angle to prevent sticking in the round and at the same instant the axe head comes in contack, you twist your wrist outward of the angle in which you hit the wood.Generally, this is to the outsdide of the round. This creats a popping action and parts the wood, similar to what a maul would do with a wide head.Only difference is with a maul your hitting straight on. It takes practice but, is very effective, especially when splitting tougher wood.

This guy came up with the same idea but, hitting the wood straight on and not having to do what I just explained.Must be what that side counter weight gismo accomplishes. Interesting

That is very clever. It flips the axe for you! That is the proper motion for splitting with an axe, the only issue is you can only split from one side of the round. A standard axe allows you to flip right or left but that actually pushes/flips the axe. Good way to teach a begginer the motion by feeling it turn in your grip

I have read some testing on AS about that axe, some people like some don't.
I like the tire idea, but i use a regular "wide head" splitting axe or maul from Gränsfors, just use any axe that don't get stuck in wood so easy and it will go just about as fast as in the video that axe :)

what A good idea to put a round of wood inside an old tire. will definitely give that a try
