all will be covered with plaster. next step is making a framing bed so i can mark out a full size template for the trusses. it also gives a level place to work off.
thanks guys. i definitely haven't done it alone. my wife, my friend (who lives on the prop), and my friends at work have made it all possible. i think i would have killed or crippled myself by now if i had to do it all myself.
TIMBER! its chopping mortice and tenons for the next few weekends. fitting round logs is sure a fiddley bit of business, but i think im getting the hang of it. ive got two beams fitted with their posts and i have two to go. the first two joints took me all of one day to fit. this weekend i did three in a day, and im hoping that means i will do four next weekend.
first one, and the biggest. this one spans the loft at the top of the stairs and so needs to be tall enough to walk under. i decided to peel the madrone because there was no way to get it to the site without damaging the delicate bark. i think it looks rather nice.
second beam. spans the open living/entrance area. this is the shortest one because it lands on the curve in the wall. its live oak.a little friend found while cleaning up some scrap wood.
