thanks. yes it is a madrone! the treads are sycamore, and the loft to which it all goes will be peeled redwood logs.

Madrone is a homey wood. I've worked with it a bit. Indigenous west coast hardwoods have some interesting characteristics. Madrone, Laurel, Chinkapen.... Not known so much as woods for woodworking in the traditional sense, but they all can be very useful and beautiful.

and todays progress. the 2x6s on the top of the wall are for the loft beams to rest on. hopefully i will have those in place tomorrow. IMGP0013.jpg IMGP0014.jpg IMGP0019.jpg IMGP0023.jpg IMGP0030.jpg

finished? but then what would i do with my weekends?

i never thought redwood could be so damn heavy! used the grcs with a double whip tackle to drag this log down to the cabin. then used the masdam to pull it into position on the wall. one down, one left to go:D. still have to peel it and fit it to the madrone. Super pictures! You are doing some cool rigging to make it come together.

Madrone, redwood, sycamore...what a wonderful conglomeration of woods.

thanks guys. the rigging was really fun, grcs doublewhip plus masdam puller plus 4:1 fiddle block plus 3:1 pulley set up floated the last log right into place. lots of running back and forth adjusting tensions. couldnt have done it without the help of my wife Natasha and my friend Gian. i figured out why those redwoods are so heavy, they are 50 years old. baby oldgrowth!

this weekend was the big push to get the final bags done and pour the concrete bond beam that will tie the walls together. 3 yards of concrete lifted onto the wall with buckets.
bags DONE! IMG-20130707-00633.jpg
