It sounds heavy and has a limited use, but it depends on design I guess. If priced right it might be a start up guys poor mans mini.

i worked for a guy years ago who used a roller ramp like that. they are really heavy duty. i remember doing a pine takedown with him, big rounds, probly close to 36". one guy rolls the round to the truck and then two guys lay it flat at the bottom of the ramp and give it a heave. damned if they didnt fly clear to the front of the box.

What do I use to manually load wood?: Razor-sharp, full-skip, square-ground.

Man, do I ever cut em small. Sorry if this results in a derail, but I have to say--it is absolutely amazing how much more work you will get out of guys if the chunks are cut almost ridiculously small. Of course, I'm referring to jobs on which a "hand-pack" is the only possible way. It's really funny though: the same guys who will make fun of you for cutting them so small--because they are so big and tough and strong--are the very guys who will load nearly twice the amount of wood than they would if you had cut them just a little bit bigger.

Seriously. I'd be interested to see what the other old-timers had to say about this. You know I'm right on this at least. ;)

I believe in cutting them smaller. At the very least, you can toss them farther into the truck. Plus, you won't hurt/wear yourself so quickly.

You know I haven't figured out why the forestry body manf. Never built a log loader like a woodsplitter has. Simple design. It could be quick detach and stored in a box out of site. Hydraulics are already present.
I don't recall where I saw that, australan truck I guess. The log trailer had specialty designed ranchers on one side (hydro-powered of course) with a curious arc shape. It was able to self load the logs.

If you want to build a hydraulic ram to toss logs in the truck, look at the garbage trucks with the rams for lifting and dumping garbage cans for design ideas.

For that matter power lift gates aren't that hard to find if you look around and have an eye for finding junk .As a matter of fact I have two of them setting up on cribbing in my woods .
