I Just Gave A Homeless Person $20

i buy food for a hungry person,
nothing else, too many lazy fakers out there,
49 cent burgers, and coffee,
ill feed ya, but not supportin no habbits

The only time I gave any money was a guy in SF who ask me to donate to "the united negro hamburger fund". Kind of struck my funny bone so I gave him enough for a hamburger. He probably spent it on booze or worse.

Thats the way I work it too. Except I just gave $20 to an oil company. Now I feel bad...

You done good Butch. Don't think too much about it. Like Jay said, if the inclination strikes you to do such a thing, DO IT.

I wonder how many vets ended up homeless? I know in London, a lot of homeless guys are ex forces, served their country and then tossed on the scrapheap. These guys find it very hard to adjust to civilian life, and often fail, turning to drugs or alcohol as the only solace.
I try not to judge people, you never know the circumstances that lead to a persons downfall.
I dont give money to beggars, but would probably be more inclined to give spontaniously like Butch did.

Good Karma Butch.

I guess I wouldn't have. But you're the only one that knew 'the moment'.

I've always felt money has to be earned, and now that I'm the parent of two young people (almost 18 and 20) it seems like it's a job in itself reinforcing that concept.

It would be nice to say 'give him a chance to earn it' (wash your car, for instance since he's already there) but that's probably the Mayberry mentality surfacing again.

Empathy, my girlfriend says its a good thing.... I take her word for it.:D

I myself don't give money to panhandlers.... can't stand it when they approach me.

Still, it never hurts to build up a little good karma.

I have helped out a few guy's here that needed it.
They worked for me a bit so I could get to know them a bit then passed them on to others on my recommendation.
If you make it clear you can actually help them you find out fast if they are serious or not.

I got a place for one to stay until he got a couple check's...

I think that is better than a handout or pity....

If I think back......I can't say I regret EVER* doing something nice for someone. Unfortunately, the opposite, moments that I've let pass me by when I could easily have helped....those will always haunt me.

Gary's right. You done good.
