Hello all,

Its been a very very busy summer, I took some Economics classes at University of Cincinnati. With being a Senior in high school this year, it was nice to have some freedom and take some classes at UC. On top of all that i have had a great year work wise and it is still going strong. Everytime i think that work will slow down it speeds right back up. I have almost trippled my sales from last year, will end the year with around $35k in sales, best of all everything is paid for (just paid the truck off about a month and a half ago).

I was wanting to know if any guys in cincinnati know of any good climbing and rigging classes. I am looking to take something in the winter to work on my skills in the tree. In addition, in the mean time I am looking for a climber to work on the weekends in the cincinnati area. I am insured and have cleared it with my insurance agent. I hired a climber a few weeks ago from the company I used to work for but he is very busy and I would like a more experienced climber.

I hope everything is going well for you guys!

Nick

If you have the option, I'd say go work with/for/whatever another company over the winter.

You can learn far more doing that than you can sitting in some class that may bore you to shreds.

Sounds good Nick, have to include you with Carl now, to take care of my social security needs in the future.

I wouldn't mind to but with school it would not be possible to work in the winter. Also to be honest I love to take classes and expanding my brain (as long as its not english).

Haha i only took Macro economics, but ask away.

Good to read ya, Nick! It sounds like you're doing something right!

Thanks MB! I've been working my ass off, thanks for the positive words!

I manage to take trips and go to school just fine. You should get a week for Thanksgiving and a month for Christmas.

Hey Nick, cool to read ya again.

Ad for classes, there are some options coming up soon. From October 12th to the 19th I believe the tree climber rendezvous will be going on up there. Mostly rec climbers, but Nick will be there, and I'm going to try and make it there for a day maybe.

October 16th, in Louisville, KY, the KY Tree Climbing Competition will be going on. Feel free to come down and ask questions and watch. This comp will be a good one, since a ton of guys will be coming from all around.

Also, I don't know if he would do anything like a class or anything, but if you can get in contact with Jay Butcher, he is a top notch climber up there, works for Madison Tree. He sometimes throws mini competitions and stuff like that at the Madison shop. Here is a link to his FaceBook Page:

Well i talked to the cincinnati Technical Field Specialist that works for Stihl today. I talked with him for a while and he teaches classes and he is going to set me up with Stihls climber at the Expo in Columbus in mid february to sharpen my climbing skills. It should be a very good experience and i even got the clear from my parents to go up there for two days and take a little break from school! I think my pops is going to go up with me.

I would be cool if you could get some mentoring in PHC, TRA and pruning at the same time!:) Rigging too!

If you see Dave Shaw there, say boo for me!8)

Yep, great job, but like the old man of the prairies ( BRENT) tells ya....you don't get paid for climbing, only for what you know and do when you get up there ;)

get as much rigging as you can get in, wish I could have started younger, but hell, I'm having fun right now !

nick
acrt is just a ways away from you, down in canton ohio
700 bucks for 40 hr class
mostly 1/2 and 1/2 of field and book
fun

i learned more just working with a good climber,
take a week or 2 off, come see me for 1 week, then go see willie for another, maybe a day of falling with one of the mr B's would be fun as well
i did a few years in indiana rigging big oaks
now im up here doing both big hardwoods and big conifers
it's like the rigging olympics

i really think working with a good climber between his jobs and yours you'll become an advanced climber quickly

hell be here monday and i'll let ya do a 3 day fir removal its great
boom work, rope down some, speed line some more, rig out 2 tops, section down to point where phone and cable distribution wires are bolted to the tree, oh wait, its over 2 bldgs and service drops to 3 bldgs
it's a fine mix of all the elements we like,
i wanted to go crane, but it's about 2 grand cheaper without
and thats what theyre after
i still get paid eitherway so its cool with me

Dave that is a hell of an idea. He would get to learn a lot of things very quickly and get to see different parts of the country all at the same time. Book it Nick. :)

It is such a pleasure reading you young-un's...Carl, rangerdanger, littlenick...you guys are refreshing when you think about how some of the youth in this country behave. Good on you, keep the strong work and education ethic you have going on and you will go far in life!

Yes. I think Nick might be moving in on the 'most likely to succeed in the future' nomination. Carl has had it locked up for quite awhile. Nice to see some competition for a change.

Seems quiet with Carl off at the trade show:lol: And seeing the education drive to do something you love to do is awsome! I am finding I gleen some info here on a day to day basis8)

Do you have any more info on the class?

Its funny that you mention traveling out there, because i have been thinking about that. I would like to take a trip out there next year or the year after. Thanks for the offer and i will definitely keep it in mind! Heck i can just take a month trip and hit up all the tree housers on the way out west!

But the guy who works for stihl his name is Scott lerman and he is a young guy around 27 and he graduated from the same high school that i went to and he knows the ground guys that work for the old tree company that i worked for. So im looking at talking with him to see if he can teach me a little here and there.
