The engineering that goes into all the machines that makes a mans' everyday work obsolete is a double edge edged sword.

In the early 1960's, with a pole and hook, I shook prunes off orchard trees for $1.36 per hour. following me were the pickers that would load the prunes I shook into lugs, at 18 cents per.

In just a few years, following my short career in the prune picking business, both jobs were taken by mechanical demons.

In the day, picking by the lug, from sun up to sun down, I could make 20 hard earned dollars every day, and Levi 501 denim genes were going for $5.00 bugs a pair.

Life was so much simpler then.

Good point, Jerry, the cost of living has been ruinous. If we could get by on a thousand bucks a month, life would be sweeter.

There's a joke in there somewhere, I'm sure I've heard it but can't quite recall the punch line...starts with "a dog, a turkey, and a pig walk into a bar..."

Wow, my favorite books as a youngster have come to life! "Freddy the Pig" stories, read and loved about every one.
