I threw it maybe 20 or 30 times in my yard. The size, weight, and it's stainless steel, I'd be a nervous wreck throwing it around others or someone's property. With a limited number of throws, I didn't notice it being anymore accurate than a bag, ricochets seemed a little worse. I did not try it in my big shot. It's hard for me to get past the price. However it never came close to getting stuck and was simple to maneuver around in the tree to isolate a branch. It is extremely well made and designed, would Easley last a lifetime. Given enough time hand throwing I have no doubt you could become very precise with it. I think rubber coating would be a fantastic idea!

Thomas I thinks it's big of you to take a chance and send this around and let everyone in our community try it out. I admire your drive and passion about your product and how your always trying to improve on your design. Best of luck.

The rubber won't slip.
Coefficient of friction is too high, too much stiction.
You can sky alot further on metal than you can on rubber or the like.
Just won't cooperate.
Back to lubrication.
Trying to get the right durometer is pita. Too hard might as well stick with
the RK, too soft and it gets stuck and wears out, have to use lube and it is a bit messy with necessary reapplication.
When I started this the idea was to make it last forever and be a substantial improvement.

What do you think?

Looks cool blacked that way Thomas, would it actually give me anything other than that in tree conditions use?

Trying for lemon aid. Potentially a fair way to add weight.
Double or triple dip and it would get close to 20 oz.
Might be easier to melt some LEAD from your old weights and keep it to the interior
so as to maintain the aerodynmics of the original form.

on a side note TreeStuff is the only North American dealer to carry the RopeArmor brand.
No why?
They have the acumen and courage to show and help us make money.
like the Rw, HH, Sw etc etc

Have you made money?

No, money would be cool.
Sadly I can't even get a dealer in my own country to carry it.
They have said point blank they love that arbos come back time and time again to
replace their busted, jammed and snagged throw bags. Trained and conditioned
for the disposable.
Vultures!
I grew up differently. Mom would prefer to do with out then to do with shite.
She is rite!
If I have a choices of a tool to feed my family one being cheap and the other being expensive and a substantial improvement i will choose what is in the budget or do with out to insure the dollar spent is a dollar gained.

I have wealthy client who says to me never ever spend your money when your making money, wait for the times when you are not making money and use the time for thorough consideration to invest and innovate.

Hi Thomas. I haven't read the whole thread but skimmed the last several pages. My bet is this venture has cost you quite a sum already, the whole process. Is there a cut-off point in your mind where you say that's enough ? Not suggesting or asking if this be sooner or later, nor questioning actual merit of the product....rather, from a business point of view if something isn't making money it generally gets laid to rest after a period of time. What are your thoughts ?

Hi Reg
Thanks for questioning our thought process.
There are many challenges yet to face. Looking for more really>
When you say enough, what are you refering to?

Regarding the money as the end goal all I can say is
being the best we can be and sharing in that is a great reward.

I'm talking purely in a business sense Tom. Most products have a life line....where if they are not selling, stop selling or are just not making or even losing money, the company ceases production of that particular item.

Imagine the look you'd get from customers standing behind you- who see you use the zipper of your pants to cinch down the screw...

RA forever. Immortal as far as I am concerned.
Its the Zippo lighter of tree care.
Life Time Guarantee, fastest, most accurate, multipurpose, high performance etc etc
It is like a gold medalist best friend to me!
We fully and completely believe in it.
We have clients, dealers and supporters who do as well.

So many here have given RA a chance with honesty and openess and for that I am truly
grateful!

There is a great group of Dealers who have given us a special chance. Luke@TreeStuff, John@Atreas, Johannes@FreeWorker and so we are here to show the world this improvement what ever the cost.

In my experience it doesn’t last Tommy, thats part of what Im geting at....Its unlikely your retailers will carry the product indefinitely if its not pulling its weight.

I liked my RK, before it got lost somewhere....more specifically with the bigshot. I didn’t throw it much because Im just not that good anyway, so wouldn’t know the difference.

I definitely agree with your claims about better aerodynamics and the anti-snag profile. But the 2 major strikes against are of course the cost, and the potential to do damage in the event of an unintended collision within the vicinity. Chances are the hard structure of the RK (compared to a tradition bag) would also cause a greater deflection should it hit the tree and not pass through the crotch.

You can argue that the one off payment of a RK is more cost effective than having to buy new throwbags every year or two....but the problem is a RK is simply not suitable for every situation because of the increased risk of damage as stated earlier....unlike a throwbag. And being that the majority of Arborist’s are working mainly high-target residential, makes it all the more difficult to justify. Another point is whether a company chooses a single RK or 10,20 or even 30 traditional throwbags during a career in treework, all are tax deductable....so either choice might be preferable depending on the individual set of circumstances.

Im sure you’ve heard all this a thousand times, sorry.

You see I’ve been in a very similar situation to you Tommy....and I know the frustration of having a perception of something that very few others seem to share....even more so when you’ve invested a lot of time and money. Despite lots of mainly cynical reaction to the product on the forums etc, I was completely blinkered and convinced they would eventually come around to my way of thinking. All I had to do was get past the next hurdle etc.

I did actually get several reputable dealers on board with my product, like yourself....managed to sell 2 batches of 20 over a couple of years I believe....but by then I’d come to the hard realization that it was more of a novelty than a product. Too expensive, too specialised and too small a profit margin all around....and not without flaws that needed ironing out were I to continue on.

I still get enquiries now through youtube and the occassional dealer....and I just say, nah, sorry.

I put in probably 3 years time and money....of which I truly could’ve spent better elsewhere....and even if not in a business sense, something like learning the guitar would’ve been way more rewarding....not to mention, easier on my family.

In the time since I’ve designed stuff thats done remarkably well, at a fraction of the investment of that previously. Sometimes one door closes, another on opens. You never know.

I honestly don’t think the RK gonna catch fire at this stage. I would love to be wrong, but Its been what 3,4 years and you’re not making any money? If you’re only going to sell a handful per year It begs the question - the time, energy and money needed to keep it going....might it be better invested elsewhere Tommy ?

Talking about marketing in general terms, America, and I suspect Canada, for that matter, are such friendly places for the positive reception of new products. Usefulness is often seen as the priority over cost, and people generally don't mind in the least bit seeing someone that has gone to efforts to produce something good, get their fair shake from the deal as well. It's a certain generosity, or what it might best be called, that doesn't exist in most other places in the world. Manufacture something that you think is very worthy, hopefully sell it, and then move away from the west, and that picture becomes pretty clear. It can actually entail getting into realms of strangeness like first having people enjoy your presence (how well can you hold your liquor?), before wanting to take a good look at your product, and then what can be seen as impudence when approaching possible business relations without first having the proper introductions, etc. If things aren't happening for you when targeting potential customers at those places where the numbers are there, and that are so warm and fuzzy with attitude potential to begin with, it would seem to be a rather monumental hurdle to cross.

Love your honesty guys. I read your words of care and concern that you feel I am wasting my time and money.
I will be honest with you, Your beating a dead horse.
Rk is safer than a bag, ball or whatever you choose of the shelf.
Cost can be adjusted, to a point. I will do my best to bring the price down.
What do you all think is a fair price for Rk?
Reg if you wanted another what would be a fair price?

I'll answer in time but you need to go first....a couple of questions I asked in my post ? Please stay on point with them. Thanks in advance.

edit the rubber sleaves are a nice touch, but surely at the expense of overall performance....which was the original incentive I believe.
