Was doing a little trimming (deadwood and pretzeled epicormics) in my neighbors tree and noticed unusual growths on the leaves. The first 5 pics are black cherry (prunus serotina). The second 5 pics, I’m unsure about the species but it was loaded with a new to the area invasive lantern fly. Not sure if this is coincidence. Anyone seen this stuff before?

Thank you so much! It definitely looks like what’s on the second tree. I’ll dig deeper now. Wanna find out if they are from the lantern fly or not

To my knowledge, insects are pests.

Bacteria, viruses, and fungi are disease- causing pathogens.
Causal agents of diseases.

All can be parasitic symbionts.

I'm Always open to correction.

Lots of insects, bacteria and fungi are useful. Even viruses in a certain way, as they can reduce the populations of unfriendly species (for us). You can find all the possibilities in the species, either insects, bacteria, fungy, from good and beneficial, to bad or even deadly. Like the variety of the human people. Nature takes care of all, just our point of view differs.
