Exactly. Much like climbing, driving, or anything else, you always have to be looking and thinking ahead, always thinking what can possibly go wrong.
And now Gary will be seen with at least three cables attached, six rope, twenty biners, 12 pulleys, an inflatable vest before venturing near water in the thing. Thanks Kyle . .

I said that, too...thought it was a joke. But it seems to be a real thing...who'd a thunk???
 
But the corrosion is fearsome.
only once the machine is pulled up, then I give it 3 days before you can stick your hand through any of the body panels, I only know about rust, none of the other stuff, but rust cant form without oxygen

Yes, but this one doesn't intervenes as oxygen in the rusting but as hydroxyde ion. Actually it's the first step to iron rust. Then, it needs gazeous oxygen to the next step and to complete the process. There's enough oxygen dissolved in the water to supply a ginormous amout of life, so the iron/steel has no problem to find it.
The salt water makes the things worse (as you all know on the salty roads) by faciliting the electrochemical reaction.
Contact with the dirt isn't an easy place either to keep your steel unharmed. The worse is just in between wet dirt and air.
