On the last hive we saved, they hated the ropes because they kept slapping the hive. Once they get pissed, best back away.
This hive was as calm as the last, we just made sure they did not get to riled up. I always test my ground with bees. A little tapping.. a little cutting.. if all goes well, probably they will stay on chill. Curious, but no threat. Stay calm, and like you said, don't swat. The porty was going to be the issue this time. So we tied high and were careful.
Like I said, I hope that if we have to go back and take it down, we can save the hive prior by enticing them into a new hive. If not, We will probably have to dice and slice it killing the hive. No one is going to pay us enough to bring in a crane. The log will be too heavy for the dingo to pick up. Maybe he will just let us leave the hive there in the spar and just take off the hollow limbs. :dontknow:
Hate losing good wild hives. They are our hope to keep a bee populous.
