Knotorious
That Guy With The Face
Salutations fellow Treehousers! It's your friendly neighborhood splice enthusiast and hitch connoisseur, @Knotorious, with another gem of a thread (at least that's what I'm telling myself).
All of us have usernames! However, as I gander at some of the usernames on here, I often wonder what inspired them or what the meaning is behind them. Nobody picks a username at random; they are entirely purposeful and thoughtfully created!
Some of you who prefer a more direct approach have chosen to simply use your name. This thread would not be for you. Many of you have usernames that most of us can easily understand, despite being creative in nature. However, even if the meaning is somewhat obvious, I'd be interested to know if there exists any history behind that username, such as it being a self-designated nickname or a name given to you by your friends, family, etc.
Other usernames (and these are the ones I'm mostly targeting) are rather obscure in nature and nobody can derive any accurate meanings for them without enquiry and they require an explanation from the user themselves in order for the rest of us to fully appreciate the meaning.
Let's consider this sort of a bonding experience. Surely I'm not the first person to feel inquisitive about the nature or origin of the usernames for many of my fellow Treehousers! Let's all take the moment to express ourselves further and understand one another more succinctly!
I'll go first!
My username (obviously) is @Knotorious. For those of you who have a keen eye for observation, you will remember that, when I first joined this forum, I posted under the username @Bioassay. A "bioassay" is a scientific experiment which tests the effects of a substance on a living organism. I am somewhat (understatement) of a chemistry nerd and that has been my go-to username for many, many years. Not only does it allow for self-expression, but it is basically never taken by anyone else when I go to use it on any website because I'm probably the only person who thinks such a term is worthy of being my username (again, I'm a giga nerd).
Shortly after creating my hitch tying thread here at The Tree House, and after getting such great help and input from many of the people on this forum, I decided that I would start a YouTube channel which would serve as a complete library of videos showing how to tie currently known and used friction hitches. I decided that I would name the channel "Knotorious" because I thought it was a) representative of me, as a total knot enthusiast and b) it was a a very (in my opinion) clever play on words. Eventually, I ran out of mainstream hitches and began creating my own, completely original friction hitches and knots. I wanted to create continuity between my thread and my channel so that I could cross post efficiently. As a result, I asked the moderator here if I could change my username to @Knotorious, and without any hassle whatsoever, he changed it for me! And now here I am!
The origin story for your username might not be as verbally dense as mine, but that's no worry! Sharing is caring! Let's learn more about one another! =-D
