'New schoolers' should know how to tie a single end/line system with no eye2eyes, pulleys, skinny friction cord...'old schoolers' should try a split tail from time to time!8)

'Kay, it's MIDNIGHT, I got to cut knee high grass tomorrow..night, night!

No, it was very specific, I like that. Reminded me of a grammar school teacher that I had, Miss Joseph. Very proper and specific, no dress above her knee. Good teacher.

I like using a split tail I thing it makes life in a tree a little easier. I also agree that all tree guys/gals should know how to tie an old school closed system. The more you know the more versatile you can be to adapt to the task at hand.

So Fiona: When you tied the tail, which hitch did you go with? I'm guessing Blake--everybody does that these days.

Butch: I've been tying a three wrap Taughtline now and then when I've got a big decent, and I want to save my split-tail. Is that what you use? I thought that I saw a picture of yours, and, to me it looked like a 3-wrap Prussic. Which way do you like it?

I use the tail end of my rope on occasion but sometimes I retie in the new crotch and then pull a loop through a crotch near me and then just lower myself down on the new tie in by hand.

Yeah!... That's the picture I remember Butch. Said something like: "Mine's a fancy one!"

We call that a Three Wrap Taughtline. Guys get super fast at tying it. Do you find that it "creeps" too much? For that reason, my foreman prefers a 3-wrap Prussic. Same thing: two wraps on the bottom, but the top wrap goes the opposite direction.

Darin: Yup. Really good trick that a surprising number of guys don't know.

That's what I hate about those modern hitches - they just sit there and do nothing - no life to em!

A Tautline hitch is a living, breathing thing.
