YEAH, IRON!!!!!

Save some muscles/energy for the gym, or whateva.

Congrats, enjoy. Get spoiled, Wonder how you did without one.

Fascinating.

A fungi body actually used by prehistoric man, as tinder, to start fires, or beaten into a fabric to make clothing! Wow!

Much more interesting than Ganoderma!

Though perhaps not as harmful to healthy trees?

More of a scavenger of the weak, damaged and stressed out?

Yes, it Fomes fomentarius. Here's another interesting birch fungus - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inonotus_obliquus

Thanks for the link...good info. An excerpt:

"Russian literature Nobel Prize laureate Alexandr Solzhenitsyn wrote two pages on the medicinal use and value of chaga in his autobiographical novel, based on his experiences in a hospital in Tashkent, Cancer Ward (1968 ) "

You tree guys always amaze me with your breadth of knowledge.

They call such fungus a "monkey's seat" over here. I see the same or similar on different species trees, not just Birch. Not uncommon on a type of Oak, If different, the cancer connection is known with it as well. Probably if it really works as a treatment, it has been synthesized, like with Yew wood bark.

Is your cleanup crew on strike Max?

I've only had to work in the snow a few times here in the mountains after storms, no cleanup, just get the trees off the lines and move on. I found it brutal each time. Even with chains on my tooltruck, and 4x4 Honda Fourtrax to haul stuff with, it was still brutal enough for me to realize how tough the arborists who work in the snow daily for months really are.

Good stuff mate.

Thanks for postin.

Is that a roll off container truck Max?

Loggers use them here big time!

Four containers, one truck. Very efficient.
