The two leaning towards the wall are dying off.

Serveral horizontal limbs would have needed hands or rope on the branch to keep it off the retaining wall

.

A sizwheel and double- hinge in the tension wood also steered lines better than a standard face...again skipping rigging.

It's surprising how the right cut and final release timing can swing maple and alder limbs 180⁰ to their original position without rigging. This limb hung right over the wall.

I think I can flop all the limbs, how’s it hinge? Need to swing a couple iirc
Green and healthy: it hinges pretty well for swinging limbs. Dead or dying: not so much, they can be brittle or punky. For swinging limbs away from targets I’d use a pull line or even a polesaw to push or pull in the right direction.

This ash held and swung like crazy compared to what I’m used to. So much easier to work with. IMG_6261.jpeg

The limb in the foreground was over the flowerbed on the right. Walked it right down and over.

Worked it down to this lollipop and then high stumped it. Towards the camera. Brushed the neighbor’s tree and got in the flowerbeds a little. Left the hinge kinda thick and wedged it like crazy, power wedges, until the back was starting to split out. Had to sneak the bar back in and gut the hinge.

Most of the sibs tomorrow are pull trees.

This hard leaning alder was hovering over the fence. It broke in the recent wind. The crown of the alder was being supported by the crown of the fir that became the rigging block tree to hang the alder whole.

I faced the tree toward the block a bit. After back cutting, once settled a bit, I cut the alder off the stump close to the ground. Short chunks from the butt, keeping weight partial in the rope and partially on the ground got it down and around the corner of the fence, lowering a 50' top.
