Have they ever really figured out how to make a true Damascus sword? I think the knowledge was lost when they were no longer being made. Various theories were developed in more modern times.

Damascus is simply used as a name for steel made by welding two different steel types together by folding and beating them.

Hum. I just looked in Wiki and found out that it is wrong to use that definition.

The last paragraph is interesting, and the reason why I originally piped up:

I hate the way Hollywood is cheapening everything, history included.
