Science is marvelous. Manipulation of science and the formulation of pseudoscience for political purposes is deplorable and worthy of vituperation. Hence my contumely observation.

THis was cool - I saw it the other day, but didn't realize it was related to this thread.

OK, I'm falling waaay behind on my South Park episodes because of this website. Every time I watch one I find another one I want to watch.

Definitely a cool website.

Preston is off mark in many of his statements in that video. The general public should be better informed.

I was wondering...

Can you expand some on that?

A lot of scientists, and writers I guess, talk like what they say is undisputed when in fact it's widely disputed. That's one of my biggest problems with academics. Everything they say is theory and opinion but since THEY are more educated (and consequently more sheltered), THEIR opinion is more valuable... bullshit.

One he says that redwoods get to be over 30 foot in diameter. I have never seen a 30 foot diameter redwood. The largest about 23 foot, and it was a double.

Another, he says "Ants are never found in redwoods" Ants live in redwoods by the tens of thousands.

Another, "Redwoods graft themselves together purposely to grow more structure." As in all trees grafts are purely chance and the tree does not think it out.

He also overstates the average age of the redwoods by over twice as much.

There's more, and especially in his book. His accounts of the redwoods are more ecstatic than factual. Yet he is regarded as being an expert on redwoods. Funny how that goes.

I DK what this is all about but here you can replace the word science with the word religion and make the same statement.
