Ok.

He has a 5' bar on it, so he said. But i don't remember it being that big.

Av good or bad?

They G has less cu. in. I believe (as Jay said.) I bought a standard a year ago in good shape for $1200. Lots sell for that and far above on ebay. Guy near Sacto. has three for sale now, $900 used hard, $1700 used a bunch but good life left, and $2500 for a never in wood powerhead that he says has Italian stampings. I don’t know enough to trust the Italian origins.

The most recent AV variant would be a valuable addition in my opinion, Willard could tell you how valuable his is in practical use. I do not agree with some peoples thoughts that the standard 090 vibrates intolerably.

I won an auction on ebay a little over a year ago for a never used in wood 090 AV for $2600, I would have reluctantly gone up to $3600 at the time. (Cowardly seller backed out by telling ebay it was stolen.)

The five foot bar could easily be worth $250 to $300 if a Cannon and in good condition.

Ha! It takes me so long to put a post together that half the group could weigh in in the mean time.

Those Mac 125 motors were used as the basis for kart motors at one time I believe. Propelling a 300 lb. kart plus driver around a track at 60 plus miles an hour and able to smoke the tires continuously on the low end.

Actually not exactly so .The Mac 101 series is more closely related to the CP 125 than the SP 125.Fact I'm not so sure the race engine wasn't developed before the kart engine but it might in fact have gone back to the 797 engine .It was probabley closer to 90 MPH than 60 .

My buddy Louis B. who I went to apprenticeship school with was national number two in the AKA for two or three years and he ran 101 Macs .Fact he's been on the lookout for several years for a race engine for me for a hotsaw .Kind of tough to find on in decent shape for a decent price

I think the factory Stihl 5 ft bar with the Stihl logo would be much more valuable and better looking Merle. I'm sure Stihl still has them in stock but probably a lot more then a Cannon in price. But as a matter of fact I found the German made Stihl bars were very high quality , better then some of the general bars I've owned.

Yes Robert Paxton McCulloch built some very unique product in the day. The man was a god in the small motor world. He built his own town in Arizona, bought the London Bridge and moved it brick by brick to his town. On the grand opening his master of ceremonies was Lorne Greene and a host of other celebreties in tow. For entertainment he held speed boat racing in his man made lake, go kart races and sky diving competitions ,to name a few.
Andreas along with son Hans Peter Stihl were very close friends of Robert and also shared interest in kart racing.

Those old saws like the 090 that don't have a choke lever that also engages the throttle, if at all cold you have to use the throttle lock. You can be there all day pulling on the thing and thinking to yourself why the hell it won't start.when the last time you used it the engine ran fine. Remember the throttle lock and if it isn't severely flooded, it starts right up. Using the saw infrequently and you can fall prey to that I've noticed. :|:

I just pour a quart or 2 of gas in the carb and crank it full throttle. ..

As a west coaster from BC I would much prefer the Cannon myself.

Oh I'm not saying their not a good bar, if anything a little too overbuilt and heavy.
But what I was saying to Merle was a pristine 090AV would look real nice with one of those 5 ft Stihl bars , with the white grey enamel and black Stihl logo in the middle.
And before it gets all scratched up take a picture of the saw to show the grand children years down the road:D

Did the five foot bar come standard with a helper handle? The 090G I inherited came with two bars, one with Stihl markings. It also came with a helper handle and both bars are cut out for it. Big old half inch pitch chain goes on it. The saw wasn't used much, I only remember once when working with the guy that bought it. I don't think the chain ever had to be sharpened. Most dudes over here would have a problem lifting it, and the guy that bought it wasn't very big. He paid a lot to specially import it from Germany though, no dealer had one. Probably the first 090 to ever come into the country, and few after that.

Weren't they still making them in Brazil recently?
Hard to say Leon. I had heard the German factory has been retiring them for years. Now there's copy cats made in China.

As long as there's rain forest to cut somewhere on this earth the 090 will never go extinct.

The Africans are entirely nuts with saws. i would think the 090 would suit their requirements best. A friend of mine hired one (African) for mountain forest thinning, some years ago but still complains about how badly the guy treated equipment before getting fired. I worked a few days with him, also funny as hell and an exceedingly strong mf. They don't seem to take much seriously, or at least he didn't. He knocked down a tree on someone's head, the coup de gras for him being canned. His family was in the diamond business in Zambia, he claimed.

Yep the 090 usually ends up with the toughest end users. From what I see the saw is the only model in modern times with the best endurance record in almost any climate and operators.

That's hilarious, Jay. I always like those pics you see of folks cutting down the rain forest while wearing flip flops or bare feet.

Of course you can . For some reason Baileys don't list Oregon but they have it in their house brand for 30 cents a drive link ..404 .063 chisel .

The bar had a knockout to mount the "idiot stick", it was in the center of the tip so the bars were hardnose type. One had to buy the handle asm separately.

Brendon,

If you're running the same guage chain, you can switch bar tips and sprokets to go from 404, to 3/8. Or vise versa.

I don't know for sure, I'd have to ask my old man, but I'd guess sproket nose came in around 1980. Dad's got a pile of old roller nose bars up in the hay mow.

I had to search under .404 chain to find it myself on Baileys site .I'm not sure what's up with them because it wasn't that long ago I ordered a 42 " loop of .404 -.063 Oregon full comp chisel for an 084 Stihl .Damned thing cost me over 50 bucks .

After thought .I just got a sale flier from Baileys last week .I'll take a peek maybe it's got something .
